http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp has a thorough explanation of the differences between hemp and marijuana. They are each a subspecies of Cannabis L. sativa. Refer to footnote #12 in the wikipedia article for a full discussion of the differences and issues involving U.S. federal law arguments.
IMO you hurt the cause by insisting that hemp = marijuana
The good news is that, despite U.S. law not distinguishing between the two plants, the U.S. is the world's #1 importer of hemp and hemp products. You can find hemp clothing and foods like milk. Most nutritious and tasty, no buzz.

Obviously, we've never heard of Hemp cause the governments dont want us to.
Hemp, over 25000 products are made from it and hardly anyone knows it.
Henry ford made a car from hemp and hit it with a sledge hammer it didnt dent.
We could massively downgrade petrochemical creation, easily.
Of course, no one wants to know cause its $$$ talking, not common sense.
The Earth dosent get a say in it, cause all we hear is "global warming".
That's not the earth, that's us worrying about ourselves.
Hemp/Cannabis/Marijuana - Call it what you may.
Its still the answer, regardless of what we are told by politicians.
of course, people read this and scoff because they are ignorant.
$100,000 to prove it wrong.

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to talk everyone into going Amish or join hippie communes. If that were the case, I would lead the movement with my feet. Awareness, now, that's another thing. Be curious. Wonder. Ask.

I knew this, and yet it still overwhelms me to think of how deeply hydrocarbons have permeated our lives globally. I live in the U.S., across an almost mile wide river from "Chemical Valley," Ontario, Canada. Naturally, the people who complain about the petrochemical industry spoiling our view & our fishing are the same people who think nothing of taking their fishing rods and tackle out in their freshly painted boats, wearing their slip-resistant deck shoes and polyester or nylon or other hydrocarbon-based clothing. When I mention this, they look at me as if I have 3 heads, as if I've disturbed their serenity, or as if I'm a wiseass knowitall. So, how do we convince people to live like the Amish?
