Lionfish Invasion Continuing to Expand

Put a 25 cents bounty on their heads..let them sell the meat, hell I love to eat fish and predators like these animals are pure proteins and clean since they don't eat large fish just their young which are clean from toxic pollutants...those bounties took out the wolf and mountain lion populations in the USA. Limiting them to the western America and the panther to FL.

just came back from tci - they have eaten most of the juvenile fish on bight reef. no one is coordinating the invasion there, and i fear it may be too late for the tci.

spotted one under the dock, just off the beach in front of our condo on Amerbergrise Island... just south of San Pedro ! Also found another one swimming in about 4 feet of water around another dock, on the south end of the island !! Beautiful for sure, but not to be enjoyed around the other beautiful fish ! We would be happy to find them on the menu at Blue Water Grill in town !

None of the comments here, nor the source article or others on the noaa site; take the very reasonable view of these fish as a potential savior of other drastically overfished species such as the endangered, or functionally extinct species of grouper from the region. They all do, however, all agree that it is highly unlikely that any method which we could reasonably employ would actually remove the lionfish from the new habitat. It seems to me therefore that using the lionfish as a staple food product, while increasing efforts aimed at enforcing the conservation of those grouper species that will also help us reduce lionfish populations is a win-win scenario rarely seen in conservation. Dedication and a watchful eye could very well be the answer the region has been anxiously looking for. I await my first meal of yummy Bahamanian Lionfish from my local grocer.
