Greg-- that is the stupidest post that I have ever seen. Most of the stuff on the internet is garbage and it sounds like you've been reading some misleading stuff on 2012. The galactic equator has nothing to do with anything on earth. I get the impression that humans have a tough time digesting the firehose of information, both useful and unfortunately unuseful, that the internet is throwing at them. The point of the story is that we are pushing our understanding of the condition of the earth and early solar system further back in time. As for the "everyday observations of weather, animal behavior and seismology" - the Earth has been and will always be in some state of change. Get used to it. We can't stop plate tectonics (earthquakes), we can't stop hurricanes, we can't stop volcanos, etc. There are things that are out of the control of human beings. Live with it.

Seems to me that with all the information available via the internet, and everyday observations of weather, animal behavior and seismology, planet earth is in some state of transition. The truth may be too dire for anyone to swallow. All roads seem to point towards the earth's position within the galaxy as it prepares to cross the plane of the galactic equator. Life as we know it would not be able to withstand the effects of a diminished magnetic field. Electrical systems and agriculture would be so greatly affected that few nations would be able to cope with the rapid change. Ironically, civilizations with the least amount of technology will be the most likely to survive these types of events.
