You guys are a load of crap! Just look at the Internet even YouTube do you see gamers breaking out into pyschotic rampages. No? I thought not. If anything video games are helping society, anyone can make video games and game designing is a well paying job.

I found this information really offensive. My name is Fluttershy and I'm a magical pony, with wings. I think you're too aggressive against nerdy violent games player. I'm a really nice pony, and i want everypony to understand the message in my comment. Anypony should know that everypony don't get aggressive, just because of a violent video games.

Well I'm gonna go on a psychopathic rampage killing hundreds of innocent people. I play video games so therefore my mind is a moral wastland and i have become maladjusted and desensitized to violence. See ya'll on the news.

I believe Rob is right on this one. I have learned a lot about Military History by playing a lot of these game. Thus pushing me to become a History Minor with a focus in Military History. I am also a Gun collector/Sportsman/NRA member. I could basically telly you anything you wanted to know about WWII weapons all because I played video games. The first time I was handed a firearm I was able to aim and hit my targets, but I learned this from playing games. I would also like to add that I am a competition shooter and I have a small arsenal. I also have a ton of First person shooter games as well. So,this study basically says that I should be a psycho killer, but I could never harm another human being. (Unless necessary)

This study is greatly setup to fail. Can you tell me where the majority of kids you tested came from? What type of homes they come from? They either came from Upper, Middle or lower class families. The bottom line is the parents in all situations are most likely not as involved as are parents were with us as we were growing up. Video Games play little or no role in our children’s life. I can’t remember one case where Halo or Gears of war, was the cause of teen pregnancy. Many of today’s games such as Medal of Honor teach American History. The same American History that is being ripped out of our schools and being replaced. I have served in the U.S. Military for the Past ten years I have never seen a simulator that mimicked a video game except for vehicles and flight. We play SOCOM and Black Ops because we choose to do so. I feel for parents in today’s age. The Government and Society has set to many restrictions on parents. I am not afraid to say if your kid acts out of line do not be afraid to put a foot in his ass. Don’t blame Video games and Music.

James, Are you really comparing your one personal example to a independent study of 130,000 subjects by a educated psychologists? I think its good that you are interested enough to think about and question the article...but your statement does not really show any supporting evidence except for your personal experience.
I too have played video games and have been able to abstain from violent crime...but this does not disprove what the professors study shows. You may not be in the majority.
If you were to expose someone to horrific images like pictures of abused children and animals ..eventually that person will not be so shocked to see them.
For all others reading this....please consider the source. (Who is commenting?, what is their motivation? and who wrote the article? I have found tons of information promoting violent video games online..all of which are paid for by the entertainment industry; I even found one put out by gun enthusiasts.

The vast majority of research produced evidence of links, not CAUSAL links, which makes me question this study off the bat. The second problem is just from personal experience: My own history of trouble in school (things like fighting) is actually the opposite of what the PTC and this study is saying it should have been. I had more incidents in elementary school, well before I'd even played a violent video game. In middle school I was in trouble only once, and it was a result of a fight I didn't start. The games I was playing at that time were Nintendo 64 first person shooters, like Goldeneye and Turok. In high school, I was never in trouble at all, and this was when I was playing a far greater number of violent video games (Halo and yes, even that often-blamed-by-lazy-parents "murder simulator" Grand Theft Auto).
I'm in college now, and still there have been no incidents. No fights, no heated arguments, bullying (something I spent most of my childhood on the receiving end of), nothing. I'd like to see just how this professor came up with his results, because from what I can tell he's the only one so far to actually claim he's found that violent video games can cause these behaviors.

I have played simi-violent to violent video games since I was 2 or 3 when the PS1 came out and i have never done anything too bad like get in fights or other thing listed in the first comment. the people who do the studies need to use people who wouldn't be violent anyway. Most people who play violent video games and are violent would be violent without the video games. This is a reliable test because of the many variables.

I have been playing video games from all different genres for virtually my entire life (24-25 years). I have never once been accused/convicted of murdering someone, having sex with a prostitute, dismembering, or defecating on another person. The problem is not the content of the games. It is the content within the head of the person playing the games. If you are unable to distinguish between fantasy and reality (less than 1% of the population,) then you have a serious problem which needs parental intervention or institutional help; not media regulation.

To be ignorant enough to say that violent video games make children violent is as bad as saying cigarettes give children lung cancer. yes both statements are obviously true but children can not buy cigarettes or these video games that have a rating system similar to movies. It is the parents place to become knowledgeable about what there children are in to. you cant just cut out the middle man and say "that kid played this video game and then went and emulated it", where did the child get the game? stores will not sell these games to children without an adults O.K. so obviously what needs to be solved is not the content of the games themselves but the decision to buy these games for there children rather than looking like the lame uncool parent. i mean really? grow a pair their your children.
