Gordon: This is a service that the electric companies are already buying. It is currently provided by natural gas plants. If the service were provided by EVs, it would cost less to the grid operator, so less to the customers.
And yes, you can fill your garage with batteries and do this, but if you're buying the expensive batteries and the expensive power electronics, why not get a rolling chassis to put them in, and have a car. Also, you'll still have to coordinate with an aggrigator, because you won't be able to fit (or afford) enough to get to the 1MW level that the grid operator wants for a contract.
of: The infrastructure is already there. Transmission & Distribution (T&D) infrastructure is associated with pushing huge amounts of power from central generation facilities out to neighborhoods. Since this energy storage is in the neighborhoods, it in most instances will reduce the amount of T&D needed.

If it only costs around $500 to hookup a battery bank, can I convert my entire garage into a battery bank substation? Forget the car, I'll just buy batteries and shelving.
btw, Does this mean higher electric rates for normal people? Who is paying the the electric company so they can pay us?

I wonder how much new infrastructure will have to be created to put the Battery power back into the grid when the vehicles are not using the battery, and will the power companies cooperate with
