Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, chimps have 24 pairs.

There is a general consensus that neanderthals were a separate species from humans. There is also a theory that they may not simply have died out but could have assimilated. Research by the Max Planck Institute does not support this theory because they find no traces of the currently mapped parts of the neanderthal genome in the modern human genome. Although there are some researchers that claim there to be some genetic and phenotypical similarities between the two, the general consensus is that they did not interbreed.

Cro Magnon was Homo Sapiens, not a separate species.
And Neanderthal was NOT out ancestor.
Since Chimps and humans have the same number of chromosomes, I suspect Neanderthal did also.

Was the Chromosome Number of Neanderthalis the same as
Cro Magnon?

I was under the assumption that Neanderthal is NOT a direct ancestor... Isn't it that Homo Sapien is based from Cro Magnon, a species existing during the time of Neanderthal? Neanderthal died out, leaving no traces left behind genetically. Ancestors? No. Awesome? Duh.
