I love it when people invoke the name of Erik Von Daniken to support an argument. I remember when the book was published (yes, I am that old) a friend was so entranced by it that he used his position in a large government research organisation to have the research facility library scour the world looking for all those wonderful books etc that Von Daniken listed in his Bibliography. Funny thing was that the library couldn't find any of them.

Actually the work was done by outsourcing in India, which was in existence at that time. The work was really of low quality, as the QA department determined, so the contract was broken, and the Egyptians had to find more cheap labor

Reading books of unexplained mysteries and acient feats that could not be matched by todays technology is a bit of a hobby of mine.

Perhaps you can read a book, educate yourself and not let someone else dictate your life and think for you. Open your eyes and open your minds. Because I hope that spaceship comes for me, too.

SO glad I checked to see if anyone made a similar comment.

I remember playing a game called "Pharaoh" a number of years ago. It was a city-building strategy game based in Egypt, and I'm always impressed at how much of the game was actually pretty accurate and logical. I mean, some parts are obviously make for gameplay mechanics, but you didn't have slaves to build mastabas and pyramids. They were usually labourers, often the same ones who farmed the floodplains. When the Nile flooded all these people would have nothing to do. Naturally you would use these people for grunt work if you were to construct a large monument like a pyramid.

Roughly, the last of the large pyramids was built around 1800 BCE.

There seems to be bit of debate about the nature of Jewish enslavement, but scholars following the the Bible and Torah place the enslaved Jews in Egypt around 1400-1200 BCE, 400 years later.

Modern experiments show that 2 ton blocks can be moved on wooden sledges and tracks (which would have come from Lebanon), by a crew of only 12-20 men. Impressive but not impossible. Anyone inferring alien influences is ignoring the changing construction and materials between pyramids that reflect their different time periods. Early pyramids are much more primitive than some of the later ones. Finally, in the end, Egypt wasn't nearly as powerful and the pyramids were built around rock outcrops to save on labor.

Yes, the pyramids can be seen from the edge of our atmosphere, and even a bit beyond with binoculars. Any shine wouldn't make it far into space, though. Take a look at any photo of earth from the moon and notice little is distinguishable.

Of course, really I suspect Preston is just flame-baiting. Remember, we aren't supposed to feed the trolls.

The various comments are further proof that public knowledge is stained by the sensationalism of Hollywood filling in the gaps of ignorance, rather than trying to fill the gaps with a little research.

There were no traps in the tombs. This is an invention of the movies. In reality, the tombs were fairly well sealed, and time and effort went into preserving as much as possible, as well as preserving the safety of the crew (very old structures that might have some stability problems internally). In reality, in terms of the public, archaeology is quite boring and, except to the archaeologist, uneventful.

Christian belief in time scale on Earth does not fit the time scale presented as when the pyramids were built, so they will always believe, word for word, what the bible tells them despite the discrepancy in time. This means they believe, despite the actual hard evidence, Jewish slaves were used. They have no problem accepting that the universe is only around 6000 years old, which evidence indicates this is wrong. It's better to believe a book that may or may not be true rather than believe evidence presented through science that tends to be verified and agreed upon by numerous reputable sources.

How the pyramids were built is still a mystery to this day. Bear in mind that human ingenuity can pull off some crazy feats. Because methods of storing and sharing knowledge were not very good at the time, it's possible a large amount of knowledge has been lost and never recovered, and that includes methods of transport and construction of large structures. We could achieve the same feats with our current technology, but we have this mindset that we need current technology to do anything that is done in modern days. Many people can't wrap their heads around the idea that very complex math was performed on an abacus, which, in modern times, is regarded more as a child's toy than a tool.
