I, Marilyn Robinson, was the one who suddenly couldn't go--my father had a very serious heart attack and I was needed at home. But I did get to Antarctica in the 1990s-2002 to research my books: Antarctica: Exploring the Extreme and An Adventurer's Guide to Antarctica and the Subantarctic Islands.
