it's NOT TRUE that the (nearly useless) HSF Committee's Report is "157 pages" long, because it's LESS than 90 pages, as explained in the 2nd UPDATE of my article about it:

If we want to get to Mars and stay there, we have to get our act together on the Moon first. Trying to do it fast, cheap, and in a single program won't cut it. Better to do it properly. This includes enabling commercial involvement.

just shut the f up and build this thing already and lead the way?

The moon would serve as a launch base for missions to Mars and beyond, a self sustaining base that would be required to produce its own fuel. Obama is not interested in true exploration for the human race for that would entail freedom.

The Japanese successfully launched an unmanned module that linked up with the ISS to resupply it. Now that's a trucking service I can live with. Fairly cheap, nobody risking their life and an ally. Unlike the %*#@! Russians.

After the Challenger and Columbia disasters, it is sad to hear Norm suggesting that human launch to LEO is a trucking service.

But then again, his report is full of mis-representations, and has a signular lack of vision.

unfortunately i would like to suggest the author of this piece do some homework on the subject specifically looking at the sophistication of the space shuttle, the Ares I, and current expendable launch vehicles before making statements in the media

So according to Subcommittee Chairwoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.)it is OK to buy launch services from the Russians, and pay millions to them, and not be held hostage to American companies?

Lockheed, Boeing, and ULA are not "non-existent" providers.

What gives?

I love how the title of this article is completely wrong. Nowhere in the report states that Ares 1 will not do it’s job. The goal of the Ares 1 is to take the crew to the moon, not low earth orbit. It’s articles like this one which do not tell the real story and make the public dislike the new program.
