I thank you for bringing to the public "How important it is to have enough sleep."
I am a director of a non-profit. MN Brain Injury Force. I see a lot of people who have a brain injury and also have a sleeping disorder. The public expects these people to hold down a job and function like the so-called normal person.
I hope and pray that somehow science can find a way to help brain injured survivors sleep. I do believe if they had better sleep they could live a better life.
Please keep up the GOOD work. Thanks again

I personally don't believe you can ever really "repay" the debt of missing sleep. Once you lose it, you lose it. The article states that "The aim of the experiments is to learn more about how the brain responds to the kind of chronic sleep deprivation people experience in real life, and to find out how much sleep is needed to repay the debt." So if you are the type of individual that needs 8 hours of sleep a night to be 100% functional and one night you only get 4...then sleeping 12 hours the following day will not "repay" the lost sleep. The damage is done. The struggle is getting on a regular sleep schedule/consistant routine. That is where the real problem is and for most people unfortunately, I don't believe we can really have a good consistant schedule. We are just so busy with life-I do like how someone commented that it evens out, I'd somewhat agree. That's my two cents!

Lack of sleep compromises your immune system which can eventually lead to heart attack and stroke. Please read mor at http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/166/16/1756 -- Capella Campomayor

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT LACK OF SLEEP IS A NORMAL STATE FOR OLDER PEOPLE. MAYBE AN INSTINCTIVE REACTION TO WARDING OFF NIGHT PROWLERS!
ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT?
