Government Stands by as Mercury Taints Water

Our government knows about the Mercury contained in many foodstuffs that we as a nation consume. Why didn't our goverment have this information posted on cans, and in supermarkets? Isn't our government supposed to look out for us, the citizens? Or is the fishing industry so powerful that it can suppress the Mercury Content in the food we eat? I suspect the latter. Why do we have the FDA?

Its unfortunate that its only poisoning the poor and immigrants. The government tends to only respond when someone rich or famous is involved. So, unless one our society's "special" people move near the Delta Mendota or Erin Brockovich decides to reprises her role as public guardian, Californians will suffer due to neglect. But don't give up hope. Maybe the tainted water will one day find its way to Beverly Hills, Hollywood or Malibu. Imagine some of those actors glowing without special effects assistance.
