The article sites a 4 degree increase in temps, but does not explain why this is 3x the average global increase over the last 100 years. Doesn't this suggest that other more local influences are at play? And if they are, how do we know how much if any of this is due to global warming?

News reports from the early 20th century describe unusual melting of Arctic sea ice about 100 years ago? Was that also global warming? And global average temps have been stable for the last 5-10 years according to satellite data. And sea levels, according to most measurements, have been at a slow but steady increase of a very small amount since the end of the last Ice Age.

Taking all this into account, the essence of this article seems to be: Look at the struggling villagers whose poor choice of placement for their village is threatened by sinking land and melting ice caused by we don't know what, so lets use it as a sympathy play to promote global warming politics.
