10 million compounds in nine months... Wow. Either there was some kind of radical new computer doo-hickey to analyze compounds or there's something somebody's hiding (ooh, conspiracy theories!)

Benjamin Didier of OR 5:23AM September 23, 2009

summary: just yesterday, the chemical abstract services discovered the 50 millionth compound:

Arylmethylidene heterocycle. its formal name is (5Z)-5-[(5-Fluoro-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylene]-2-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-4(5H)-thiazolone.

one thing that helped them track this chemical down was recent change in the system. now instead of having to read each file for every chemical manually the computers can do it for them. this change will also help with discoveries in the future.

why its important: it helps reduce neuropathic pain.

future effects: it will help reduce neuropathic pain.
