Sounds like not only fascinating but valuable research in my lowly opinion. It's not about snakes and spiders, it's about phobias which can be very debilitating for many folk. It should also be very valuable for parents in allowing them to understand how their behaviour and phobias can be passed on to children at an early age.

You're worried whether miniscule amounts of money are being wasted by government or charities on this kind of research?

Perhaps step back and look at the billions wasted elsewhere.

The route cause of pedantry might also be worthy of a few hundred grand of research funding....

don't really need to be messin' with snakes and spiders either. A brown recluse bite ain't no picnic.

As for Rakison's studies, please tell me that this unnecessary "research" was not funded by a government grant---or even by a charitable grant that MIGHT have gone to something useful.
