I am impressed by the credentials of the scientists' analysis of this article; but they remind me of the blind men feeling an elephant and stating that and elephant is like a tree trunk, a snake, and so forth; we all know the story. The overall picture of what is really happening is a composite of many actions and reactions and is not as simplistic as these many specialists propose. A hypothsesis is a better term for their remarks. Using technical terms merely confuses many of the readers and in many cases it appears to be a "statistical sampling of one" considering the age of the earth and the many cycles the earth goes through over million of years.

Why after previous Ice Ages when permafrost has melted has the earth not endured the huge release of carbon that he fears? Because encroaching vegetation has covered and/or consumed most of it. This article doesn't belong in the science section of the magazine.
