I should have included this source in the above post:

It links to many other comments and evaluations of the US GCRP report.

Ruth and others, you can download the full report here:

Let's all push for a positive transition.

How long will the US tax payers permit our elected officials to reward "squaters" on 'railroad tracks" (defined as any known geological location that is subjected at any point in time to damages of nature, floodidng, land slides, high winds, hurracains etc)" to get tax payers dollars to help make them whole for their bad judgment(New Orleans below sea level).

Those who fail to heed known disasters or build on a 'railroad track" should be held responsible for his or her own action. Irresponsible decisions(behavior) and or action of my fellow citizen should not and is not my responsibility. Our nation must return to the practical concept that each individual is responsible for his or her action.

"Why should it be supposed that the thousands of scientists who study climate and agree on the changes that are occurring are perpetrating a fraud, or are simply mistaken?"

Because of $50 billion in funding?

I have two concerns:

1. How do I find the full report? Usually the full report gives a lot of important information not found in summaries, and I am skeptical of summaries (let alone of media reports of summaries).

2. More important, what are the uncertainties and probabilities in the report? There is no way a prediction of anything can be absolute (e.g. "global temperature will rise..."). A scientific prediction almost always involves some uncertainty analysis (e.g., there is a 99% -- or whatever -- probability that global temperature will rise by x +/- y degrees C...)

This is neither pro nor con global climate change, but an observation about scientific prediction.

More evidence that we should abandon Waxman-Markey and get serious about stemming the tide of global climate change with a revenue-neutral carbon tax.

Some of your commenters seem to think that global warming science is a conspiracy. During the past century, the scientific method has resulted in spectacular advances in physics, space travel, medicine, communications, etc., that have raised our standard of living to unprecedented levels. Why should it be supposed that the thousands of scientists who study climate and agree on the changes that are occurring are perpetrating a fraud, or are simply mistaken?

One of the problems with democracy is that the votes of ignorant, dishonest and stupid people count just as much as those of well-informed and intelligent ones. So there is reason to be concerned that the measures necessary to combat global warming will never be approved by our political system.

Desmond Armstrong of OR 10:39PM June 17, 2009

Anyone who doubts that global warming is happening and is human-caused, and who

refuses to compare the percentage rise in atmospheric carbon in the last three hundred years with that of any other time in our globe's history has no credibility whatsoever.

Percentage rise. What does this mean? The RATE AT WHICH ATMOSPHERIC CARBON HAS RISEN is what it means. Think about it.

This is human-caused. We can remedy it, if we as a species are capable of acting together in an intelligent manner.

We may not survive this challenge.

Hydrogen Fuel Cells? High School chemistry will tell you that there is only one source of Hydrogen on our planet, water! And while the left wing loons would have you believe it is abundant, the fact is the bond between Hydrogen and Oxygen is very strong and takes a great deal of energy to release them. It actually takes twice the amount of electrical energy to break the atomic bond of water than the hydrogen energy it produces. The advantage with Hydrogen its efficiency in burning compared to gasoline nothing more.

So to produce usable amounts of Hydrogen we need more coal, nuclear or damn power which are the only known reliable producers of electricity. You left wing, Global Warming Kool Aid drinkers will never go for that. The good news is that it doesn't matter because history has proven that once these idiots bankrupt the country, real Americans that have had enough will band together and produce real innovation like cleaner coal plants, safer nuclear power and the rest. Since the US hasn't made a good car in thirty years, we can leave that part up to Japan and Europe.

These are facts any person with an average IQ of 98 should be able to understand.

So the world is warming up, just as it has done for millions of years, then it will enter yet another "ice age", just as it has done for millions of years, then it will warm again... This planet is a living organism, with its very own rhythms and cycles - just like every other living organism on it.

To pass legislation to stop "global warming" is yet another self-centered perspective from human beings, ranking right up there with the flat planet theory and the view of our world as the center of the universe. People and governments need to stop thinking in such a microcosmic "in our lifetime" perspective of climate change.

Here's a couple nuggets of info: there is scientific research indicating that higher CO2 levels (historically) are the RESULT of rising temperatures... NOT the CAUSE of it. Warming is just part of the earth's cycle. With that in mind, all of car exhaust and manufacturing and general rape and plunder of Earth does is not really the cause of planetary warming - and we are not going to reverse this warming process...

Secondly- some historical (earth lifetime) data suggests that we are on the verge of another "ice age" event (also known as glaciation)... Perhaps our world leaders should spend more time figuring out how to survive through that, and preparing our descendants for it, rather than trying to figure out how to stop global warming. At best they might delay it for a few months!

So thanks to our government for the study (paid for by us taxpayers) and the redundant information. Maybe the government should conduct a study to verify that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west... just to make sure we all have it straight!
