Study Sees 'Alarming' Use of Energy, Materials in Newer Manufacturing Processes

Solar Power

The author is correct, the energy used in producing the solar panels could have been used to help the BABY SEALS.

The so called "Renewable Energy Initiative" is nothing more than a Vote Generating Machine.

It is flat out wrong to think Solar Energy, Wind or other "Alternative Energies" can make the smallest dent in our energy requirements. It just isn't currently possible. (You can check) We use too much energy and are not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to build a sustainable society based on wind and solar. It doesn't add up.

Fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas, are the Cheapest, Biggest Bang energy sources that currently exist.

(And here it comes!)

Besides Nuclear. But Nuclear Energy is Mysterious and Scary. So most people form opinions on Nuclear Energy based on Popular Opinion and not Science, they oppose Nuclear Energy on an Emotional and not a Rational level.

Nuclear Energy is one of the Cheapest, Safest and sustainable Bang for your Buck energy producers. It' proven, reliable and available now. It doesn't rely on sunny days or wind to work. It never sleeps so it's ready to use 24/7.

This is the current reality, even if you disagree emotionally, (and you will) it's still true.

The Math is just too inflexible to make Solar/Wind/Biomass Power work at this time.

Were that this wasn't so.

But it is.

But these newer technologies are of very high value per unit of mass. A better question is what is the energy input per dollar output of manufacturing over time.

Counting all energy used in making solar panel

ALL energy inputs should be counted in making solar panels: mining, personnel transport processing of ores, silicon, glass, bauxite transport and smelting, materials transport, buildings where the PV panels are made, lighting/heating/AC for those buildings, and maintenance of everything over the lifetime of solar panels and infrastructure. In addition, all of the salaries and dividends of all employees involved in all processes must be counted, as salaries and dividends are spent on oil (vacations, food purchases/transport of food, etc.).
