An Atlas of Climate Change

In a mountain of glass, there are some diamonds

"Does anybody around here ever cite peer reviewed scientific journals in support of their claims?"

http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=010405M

Some of the main pointers:

--450 million years ago, the world was in a very severe ice age, yet CO2 concentrations were 15 times as high as they are today (around 5,700 ppm compared to 380 ppm).

--There is no correlation between the amount of CO2 in the Atmosphere and temperature fluctuations

--Past rises in CO2 which were prematurely assumed to 'cause' warming were in fact the result of it-as a warmer world allows new habitats to open up and thus more life-and CO2 from respiration, decay and so fourth

--The activity of the sun drives all climate changes, as a more active sun not only means more radiation is directed towards earth, however it reduces the amount of Cosmic Rays from hitting the earth, the cosmic rays producing low-level clouds which reflect sunlight and thus cause cooling

--Water vapor is the primary greenhouse gas, resulting in over 90% of the greenhouse effect

--The past 10,000 years have been 'unusually stable' climatically

Oh, you don't see that many natural cause reports because it is bad for business for the alarmists, who make their money promoting the alarm caused by humanity. If that were to be proven false, than they would loose their funding, jobs and influence, as would politicians who supported them. This report being from Canada with no ties to 'big oil,' not that it matters, as any scientist accepting 'green funds' is just as likely to lie or distort information as someone who gets their money from 'big oil,' they both have an incentive to.

Instead of believing unsupported claims, lets examine the evidence:

In 1988 James Hansen testified before congress to scare us about global warming. See his predictions on page 7 of this PDF from NASA’s website:

http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/1988/1988_Hansen_etal.pdf

All satellite data, including this from the University of Alabama at Huntsville proves that he was wrong. The predicted warming never occurred:

http://icecap.us/images/uploads/HANSEN_AND_CONGRESS.jpg

2008 was even colder than 1988. Had he predicted what actually happened, no one would have seen the need to waste hundreds of billions of dollars. Now the politicians are threatening to burden the economy with their Cap-and-Trade scheme, which amounts to a massive tax increase on all conventional energy usage, to be paid for by you every time you buy something manufactured or transported using energy, which includes everything you spend your money on. It’s ironic how they claim to be protecting the children from doomsday, when they are really impoverishing your children’s future with this additional burden. Here is more background on this deliberate hoax from 1988:

http://icecap.us/index.php/go/joes-blog/hansens_anniversary_testimony/

31,478 scientists signed a petition opposing the man-made global warming theory. Their reasoning is outlined in a peer reviewed journal article detailing the evidence that disproved the theory. Please follow this link:

http://www.petitionproject.org/

We are being forced to pay for less economical sources of energy while being told they are viable alternatives. This is a lie. All of the so-called ‘alternative’ sources of energy, including wind and solar, equal less than one percent of mankind’s needs. Meanwhile our far more economical access to hydrocarbon energy and nuclear energy is being throttled for no good reason. Obviously Gore wouldn't mind impoverishing the rest of us to enrich himself with his ‘carbon trading’ scheme. With the size of his utility bills and the cost of jet fuel for his private jet flying him all over the world, he needs all the money he can get. If he was really worried about CO2, wouldn’t he act like he was worried about his own emissions, and energy consumption? Of course he is received like a hero in Hollywood; he makes hypocrisy fashionable.

knatoli of FL,

Had you followed the links I already provided, you would have found these two peer-reviewed articles:

This first peer-reviewed article shows the failed Global Warming prediction from 1988:

http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/1988/1988_Hansen_etal.pdf

This second peer-reviewed article explains why the prediction failed:

http://www.petitionproject.org/gw_article/GWReview_OISM150.pdf

The second of these two peer-reviewed articles cites 132 references, most of which are also peer-reviewed. As a part of the petition project, the article’s conclusions were also read and endorsed by the 31,478 scientists who signed the petition. The satellite data I cited from the last twenty years comes from the Atmospheric Science Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and has been confirmed by all other available satellite data measuring the same thing. You, on the other-hand have cited noting, peer-reviewed or otherwise. Your failure to notice this obvious fact shows you are either too lazy to read what I have made available to you, or you are just dishonestly trying to mischaracterize my sources cited, without being able to address the compelling arguments they contain. I suspect some combination of the two.

GOING GREEN HAS GONE TOO FAR

A few fun eco-facts that you won't learn in public school or from U.S. News.

1. We are currently in an interglacial period. Have been since the end of the Pleistocene Epoch (most current Ice age ending approx. 11000 year ago). I note that, with wide variations of cooling and heating, global temps have generally risen during that period.

2. Global temps began rising, causing the ice sheets to recede, 11000 years before Suv's and the Industrial age.

3. There have been several mini- Ice Ages in the last 10,000 years - all followed by eras of - yup.... global warming.

4. Sea levels have been rising since the end of the last ice age - with century long pauses during periods of "global cooling. Sea levels have risen over 300 feet in the past 15000 years...

5. For the past two years global temps have fallen... Last winter had record breaking snow levels.

6. All the melting "pole" ice shelves that everyone is panicking about have melted before - and come back - and are doing so now.

7. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that man made co2 has anything to do with possible global warming. Human induced co2 accounts for less than 1% of co2 in the atmosphere. If we followed the green banners and marched back to the caves - leaving 99% of our fellows to die - The Co2 meter would barely move.

8. H2o is (water vapor) is the most common green house gas representing 95% of green house gas.

9. More "bio-mass" is present at the middle latitudes and far less as the poles. You may check this out by trying to grow something on a sheet of ice and compare that to your success in a "green house". If that's too much work, look at a National Geographic that has pics of tropical rain forests and compare to pics of frozen tundra. See what I mean?

10. Bonus factoids... More oil spilled into the sea every five weeks during the nearly 6 years of WWII than in the entire 65 years since its end. Guess what? The oceans survived those 3600+ ships, (hundreds were oil tankers - all were full of fuel oil and chemicals) sinking. When Cabrillo explored the west coast of what is now California, in 1542, he sailed through an oil slick more than a hundred miles wide caused by "natural seepage". Oil platforms actually reduce the amount of oil in the sea by reducing "natural seepage" Less than one barrel per day is lost from all the 3800+ oil platforms each day - more than 1500 barrels seeps into U.S. territorial waters from natural, undersea fissures each day - and would increase if we reduced off shore drilling. The worst man made oil spill in history took place in August 1944 when American dive bombers dropped many tons of bombs on 77 Japanese ships in Truk Lagoon. All were sunk. These ships still leak oil to this day. Truck Lagoon is not a "Superfund Site". Rather, it is the most popular dive resort on the planet and has a diverse underwater ecosystem.

11. 2800 gallons of oil seeps from undersea fissure off Southern Ca. This is more than 50 times the amount from anthropogenic sources.

"Going Green" has gone too far. Environmentalism has become an intolerant, hysterical religion. Consider this another in a long line of wake- up calls...

taking responsibility for our actions

There r people who r always trying to to find explanations 2 why things r happpening and then you have people who want to deny things from happening? would'nt it just be nice for everyone to live consciously. we r not perfect but i would say most know the difference between right and wrong. how about just choosing to do what is right for this 1 beautiful world we have. fear of the unknown is what causes denial. lets get back to basics and stop chasing our tales.Life is to short for such nonsense.

GeoScience and Global warming

From what I remember in high school science, the Earth has a cyclicle life span of billions of years, and we move in and out of Ice ages and warming periods. One gentleman on here has stated that same thing. Al (Pay me ) Gore has misrepresented the inconvienent truth for monetary gain of the american tax payers and proved to be a hypcrit with his 20,000 square foot (glowing) house and private jet. As another person pointed out about the volcanoes producing more cardon than we did during the industrial revolution, you are correct. Who are we humans whom think that we can destroy the environment so quckly then think that we can also fix it better than nature? I also remember back in the 60's and 70's everybody thought that we were in a new Ice age. What happened, not enough profit?

Geoscience and Global Warming

As a Geoscientist with a MS in Geophysics and 47 years of working in the field, I look at this debate and am totally frustrated. When I was in Grad School in the early 1960's the Greenhouse-Global Warming theory was an old and rejected theory. The people who have brought this to the forefront of National Terror are not apparently trained in Historical Geology and Geophysics. If they were, they would be aware of the glacial ages and interglacial periods between that have been a part of the History of Terra Firma for millions of years. We have somewhat recently exited a major ices age and are in what is called an interglacial or relatively warm period. The oscillations of temperature and sea level that have occurred as a result of the glacial -interglacial cycles are known in great detail. There are plausible theories as to the cause of the cycles. Astronomical causes are the most well accepted although the role of major volcanic eruptions is thought to be significant. For instance, the Yellowstone Park mega volcano eruption was not long ago (200,000 yrs) and was thousands of times more violent than St. Helens or Krakatoa. It covered the entire US with ash and probably wiped out most life in North America. There is little doubt that it also produced a winter that didn't end for some years due to the huge amount of ash in the atmosphere. Our affects on the Earth are puny by comparison.

global warming

global warming is incresing day by day bcz today we see lots vehicles on road which spreads lots carbon di oxide and many people using air conditioner due which it is affecting the ozone layer, and lots of cutting of trees is taking place by this humidity is increasing....... and we are feeling more and heat day by day.......... every new invention has a drawback to the environment so the researchers should see to tht it is eco friendly..........
