London's Subway Marks 150th Anniversary

After viewing damage to Polish subways caused by German Air bombs, the British constructed great steel doors in the tunnels of London’s Tube railways deep below the city on Oct. 11, 1939, to prevent flooding. The London Underground, commonly called the Tube, is the oldest of its kind in the world and marks its 150th anniversary on Jan. 10.
