Mort Zuckerman: Israel Is a Key Ally and Deserves U.S. Support

That Jew Satan lecture is the most idotic thing I've ever read. When in history, before the U.S. started supporing the invasion and ocupaton of Palistine, did the Arabs ever have anything bad to say about the U.S.? When we stood for teh rights of the poor of the world to self-determination, agaisnt the will of the White Europeans who traveled everywhere with guns murdering and theveing, the U.S. was the most admired country in the world. Who said White people had the right to redraw the borders of the poor countries of the world? Do we allow them to redraw our countries? What Court of law said any nation has the right to say the poor and weak of the world are our slaves, and take from them what little they have? The idea, not surprisingly being put forth by a white jew male, that white people, because of our religion and skin color, have the right to go and steal and murder from the poor colored people of the world is anti-bible, anti-American and anti-justice. You want peace in the world, then enforce everybodies rights equally. Oppose White Supremecy, and give back what has been stolen fromt the poor of the world.

Israel is becoming a huge liability for the USA. This relationships is costing us alot. Many Americans has died to support it and alot of money has been poured in to protect Israel.

The antiIsraeli comments by some others at this site have only one agenda and that is the same as Iran and its agents Hamas etc. The complete destruction of Israel so that the Palestinians can take over the land that never was theirs and turn it back into hardscrabble desert and goat trails which it was until Israel was formed 62 years ago. The Palestinians have had a chance from the very beginning to have a part of the land and their own country, but chose war and destruction instead. Their leaders have betrayed them and lined their own pockets instead of working alongside Israel to form borders that are safe for both countries so that the PEOPLE can live in peace. Until they are willing to do that there will be no peace and no hope. There can be eventual complete destruction, when Iran finally is able to act on their threat to use the bomb on Israel, but who will benefit from that? Will the Palestinians? No, they will die alongside the Israelis and the land will be devastated and no one can live there. But that is what they want. The destruction of Israel, regardless of how much suffering is brought upon the whole area.

There would be a thriving Palestine, celebrating its 62nd birthday this year, if what the Palestinians really wanted was a thriving, peaceful Palestine, rather than a destroyed Israel.

I agree with article. I think we need to have both sides participating and the US not bullying Israel in this so called peace process. We need to support Israel and stand by her as we have so the Holocaust does not happen again. I appreciate your fair reporting.

I love this line that the vast majority of Israelis, and Jews want peace. What exactly is that conclusion based upon? Israel signing the Oslo peace accord then doubling settlement building? Barak's supposedly golden deal to give Palestinians 70% of the West Bank(less than 25% of all Palestine) but control of no water? The withdrawal from Gaza to create an open air prison where the inhabitants are now being starved into submission? The two tiered system in the West Bank where Israelis drive on paved roads while Palestinians get to use the goat trails? The Jim Crow society Israel has created for its own Arab minority? Two wars in recent times against its neighbours - over 2,000 people killed? The endless threats to attack Iran or the frequent violation of Syrian air space? Perhaps the targetted assassinations of Palestinians in foreign countries? Or the fraud of using other countries' passports to commit such murders?

The Zionist entity of Israel is a malicious and paranoid state that has yet to show any indication it wants to live in peace with its neighbours.

Mr Zuckerman needs a lesson in geograpy and politics. Israel does not control the Red Sea or never will. Look at a map not drawn by the Texas School Board or one pulled down by Mr. Zukerman. Technically, Israel does not have a border with the Red Sea but an estuary of the Red Sea to the port city of Elat.

Israel's positive and beneficial strategic value to the US is not of the opinion of several former CIA analysts; Robert Baer, Bill and Kathy Christison, Phil Giraldi, Ray McGovern, and Michael Scheuer, who have spent quite a bit of their lives dealing with the Middle East and are in a better position to assess the Israel-US relationship than Mr Zukerman.

Not many US naval vessels have access to Israeli ports for security reasons and in many cases crews are denied port call for security reasons. Remember the USS Liberty?

Israel is smaller than the state of New Jersey and has about as many natural resources as my cat litter box, yet, the US tax payers are forced to provide Israel with $8 billion a year.

For what? Israel is not worth it.

Paul Whiteside of XX - thanks for pointing me to Jonathan Cook - I hoped to find some elightenment in his writings. Unfortunately, all I found was one-sided, anti-Israel retoric. I read 35 articles from various years and topics - according to Jonathan Cook, EVERY problem is caused by Israel, ALL Palestinian assertions are completely legitimate, EVERY Israeli assertion is completely illegitimate. The articles I read implied that Israel is motivated mainly by her desire to harm Palestinians rather than her desire to protect and preserve herself. No culpability was ever associated with Palestinian actions. I was not able to learn anything from Jonathan Cook's writings, except that he disapproves of Israel.

The VAST MAJORITY of Israelis (and Jews worldwide) embrace the creation of a peaceful Palestine; the VAST MAJORITY of Palestinians (and Arabs and Muslims worldwide (and all you vile Jew-haters who have posted here)) embrace the DESTRUCTION of Israel.

There is no such thing as "the '67 borders", legal, or otherwise. There never has been, there never will be. Those were armistice lines, not borders.

There would be a thriving Palestine, celebrating its 62nd birthday this year, if what the Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, and Jew-haters really wanted was a thriving, peaceful Palestine, rather than a destroyed Israel.

F. Freleng of NM 6:52PM May 23, 2010

The Palestinians have said they want peace based on the 1967 borders. Hamas has said they'd honour an indefinate ceasefire if peace was reached including the '67 borders. The Arab states say they will make peace with Israel if it means the 1967 borders. The United Nations state the '67 border is the true border and all Israeli West Bank settlement building is illegal.

So what's the problem? ALL Israelis - even the most moderate - want to keep at least the largest West Bank settlements. In otherwords, Israel will not accept a peace deal based on the 1967 borders.

It has nothing to do with anti-semetism or wanting the destruction of Israel. It's about a fair peace, something Israel has never been able to offer.

If you want to wallow in ignorance, or Zuckerman like propaganda, then you are also an obstacle to peace. If you want to fix this problem then educate yourself. Start by reading independent journalist Jonathan Cook. If you really love Israel then show you care by saving Israel from itself!
