Obama will pick a judge who's endorsed by the Third Way. A communitarian idelogue.

R.L., when you finally figure out that your duty as a Christian with respect to abortion is to simply not cause any of them yourself, you will be on the road to being a better citizen, voter and church member.

You simply are not called to form the national law on this, even though you think you are. Same for the Bishops.

R.L., GET A LIFE...your own. Then you'd not have such a need to control and judge others, or the time to write so many volumes of text. Geez.

The previous posts serve well to prove my point - even though they missed it.

"The source of all Justice, Truth, and Morality is, in fact, Perfect and Eternal. These truths can never change, they can only be discovered or hidden - found or forgotten - revealed or ignored by man."

Saying morals are "relative" only makes them meaningless - In other words, no absolute morality - simply no basis for morality at all.

re. abortion, only basic common sense is needed - no need for uninformed and misguided Church bashing.

"For the past thirty-five years, the Catholic bishops of the United States have made public arguments that can be engaged by any serious person on behalf of the right to life. You don't have to believe in Petrine primacy, seven sacraments, The Holy Trinity, or the two natures of Christ to engage the Catholic pro-life argument. You don't even have to believe in God. You simply have to be willing to take elementary embryology and elementary logic seriously or be able to view an ultrasound to understand this basic teaching of the Church."

OK, I'm done - please, feel free, continue to spew your subjective froth - Obama agrees with you, so you must be right.

knows who the real Barack Obama is. Nobody.

If you thought you knew him, you were wrong.

Can anybody claim to know what the vision of this new president is?

It's going to be an intresting 4 years.

Replying to R.L. and just what are yu trying to say? that we have no morals left? I'm pretty sure I can go moral for moral with you. At least, I believe in real life. There are no simple answers. You cant (at least in a morally or intellectually honest wway) state that either justice, truth or moralality is always the same. Like it or not, shades of gray is what we have. Until such time as you harm another (and I don't mean fetus here- the fetus is still a part of the mother until birth) you do not have the right in a truthful, justice or moral way to define what is right or wrong for another person. As I said before, if you want to believe what you wrote for yourself, fine, but you absolutely have no right to impose your opinions (morals) on someone else. I don't have to agree with you and you don't have to agree with me.

Answering post below by R.L Schaefer on the dangers of "relativism", consider that the Caholic Church routinely re-defines scripture to suit itself (the elevation of Mary and others to "sainthood" and the utterly preposterous notion that a priest must intermediate between a person and God) and routinely makes moral judgments on its own authority as to what constitutes mortal sin as opposed to lesser sin.

As for the frog in the pot analogy, I'd ask the Church to consider how it let dozens of priests become known abusers to the point of requiring millions of dollars in legal settlements to be appropriated from the sacrificial tithes of parishoners.

Thankfully, Obama will be naming secular judges. The Church can busy itself naming the next Pope.

Most know of the old axiom of the frog in boiling water, but it does seem that a lot of folks have either forgotten it or how how it applies in our modern society.

For those not familiar with the apothegm - it goes like this;

If a frog is thrown into a pot of boiling water it will instantly jump out in self preservation. However, if you drop, said frog, into cool water, and slowly turn up the heat... Well, it will simply bask in the warmth until boiled to death.

An analogous example in our times might be found in “entertainment’. If we could somehow beam our present day T.V. programing back in time - into the households accustomed to watching “Leave it to Beaver” or “Lassie” the audience would throw their T.V.s into the street at the sight of “Sex in the City” or other prime time slime that now passes for “family entertainment.” Since the immoral, trashy programing insidiously crept into our homes, one decadent moment at a time, our nation was slowly lulled into a death of moral character, with the resulting subsequent decay of our families - thereby infecting society as a whole.

Another example would be our nation’s, and the world’s, slide into the horror of infanticide. Again, the burner was turned up slowly. The license of sex and “free love” in the 60’s led to irresponsible sex. The birth control pill made its debut about the same time - Now casual sex could even be easier and without consequence. The divorce rates shot upward, welfare moms, broken homes, hopeless kids, and STD’s became a plague. Then the innocent unborn - products of a couples irresponsible behavior - had to be destroyed, in the name of progressive “feminism” and “reproductive rights”... The reality was, and is, that 95% of abortions are for the sake of personal convenience after irresponsible sex - nothing more. Now, we have elected a president - A new Messiah, who believes that even the “unwanted” newly born can be left to die of hypothermia or dehydration. This man, even compares himself to Lincoln... I can assure you that Lincoln would have wept at the idea of such a man as president. You see, times have again changed.

The basis for all this decay is simply, “cultural and moral relativism” - The idea that morality is relative. If morality is the same as philosophy - all ideas and opinions have same and equal weight of subjective truth and meaning - it follows then, all are equally worthless and meaningless. Law and morality become the offspring of impenetrable skepticism and relativism... Merely assigned a relevance within accepted “cultural norms”.

It has become unfashionable - no intolerable - to think of morality as being absolute. However, the basis for all morality is indeed Absolute and Eternal.

The source of all Justice, Truth, and Morality is, in fact, Perfect and Eternal. These truths can never change, they can only be discovered or hidden - found or forgotten - revealed or ignored by man.

The easy road is to view and interpret them through the imperfect lens of “cultural norms” - An ever changing landscape of subjective grays. We would never treat gravity, physics or biology in this way. Understanding of these did not come to us easily. But we do accept that we can know and discover their truths. We know that the reality of these things does not change based on our perceptions or observations.

The Supreme Court , and all courts, must abandon the notion of “cultural norms” or subjective justice. The Supreme Court Building has carvings, paintings and frescoes of “The 10 Commandments”, so the premise of “objective morality” should not be foreign to our courts. Further, I would think think that the lessons of the Nuremberg Trials, and their historical context, should disabuse any one of the notion that “cultural norms” are trustworthy guideposts for the judiciary.

Absolute Morality, Eternal Truth and Perfect Justice are, indeed, knowable. It takes diligence, logic, reason and time, but these truths need to be rediscovered as, “self evident”, once again.

I'm the anonymous "answered" by R.L. Schaefer, below. Bet you a cookie he does not know that one of his Catholic heroes, Justice Clarence Thomas is exactly the closet pervert that Anita Hill said that he was. And bet you another cookie that he doesn't care that this travesty is on the Court in the name of his Church. With the super-religious, the end always justifies the end. Ole R.L. will tell you so every time.

Have any of you "ORIGINALIST"S ever even read the Constitution? If you had, I believe you would find it impossible to reach your conclusions. The document was intended to protect the people, not a church. Yes the churches have the right to espouse whatever they like, but the simple fact of Rhode Island pretty much proves the point of separation of church and state. Just ask Roger Williams. And I personally think the Catholic Bishops stand on abortion is more immoral than a woman trying to deal with whatever situation will ever be.
