The GOP’s Next Move

The GOP and Conservatism need only look to three guiding principles; Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Here they go again.

Republicans always claim during campaigns to be all about helping "Joe the plumber". Once the election's over they go right back to serving only the wealthiest one percent. Republicans eagerly bailed out the Citigroup people who took our money then laid off 75,000 'Joe the bank tellers" and "Joann the secretaries". Now the "Joe the auto factory worker" needs a bailout, Republicans are the "party of NO". They openly scoff at the idea of helping union laborers who they claim are overpaid. The current Republican administration gave Goldman Sachs $10 billion, then Goldman handed out $6.5 billion in bonuses. But Republicans focused attention on what kind of jet the beggars from Detroit flew to Washington in. Millions of real people who work hard and unlike "Joe the plumber" pay our taxes, are really hurting. What we don't need is for Republicans to block the bailout of these workers merely for the sake of opposing Democrats and further to deny help to workers that largely tend to vote Democratic. What Americans don't need is for Republicans to cause millions of autoworkers to be fired, so the taxpayers support them with unemployment, welfare and more. At least if they have jobs, their taxes will help us pay for their lousy bailout.

I'm all for letting the GOP do it's thing. Anyone who actually believe the garbage-spewers on FOX need to learn some lessons about life and critical thinking.

Go ahead and take the party back to the far right, which is waaayyy more right than it was 40 years ago and waaayyy more inclusive than it was 40 years ago. Go ahead, and let's see how you do in the rest of "real America".

I'm one of those who has voted straight GOP since my first election in 1968. I didn't this election, though, and will not as long as the neander-cons have any influence.

I don't buy into everything from the far left either, but at least they are not calling me anti-American for not agreeing with them, and they are not defining morality for me.

Is the only secret weapon traditional (not the "new" Republicans) conservatives will require.

What I can't figure out is why The Empty O'Man is giving the White House to the Clintons and their old staffers - After all he bought it...

P.S. To Phoenician Lady,

By the way, it may interest you to note that the earth is currently in an interglacial period.

Ah... that means we are merely between "Ice Ages" - I believe all scientists are on the same page regarding this fact. So, it seems that "if" man made green house gases are a factor in a minute warming trend then that might, in fact, be a good thing. It may actually slow down the advent of the next Ice Age.

I don't know about you, but I'm thinkin' that it's easier to live with palm tress than have glaciers covering the earth's cities in the latitudes of, say 40 to 55 degrees north and 35 - 55 degrees south. Hey, after all, isn't it all about "change"?

I suggest you get a new worry... Maybe bring back the ALAR hysteria or the hole in the Ozone thing... Or better still, maybe find a real worry - Like a terrorist nuke on a container ship - You can bet they're workin' on it.

I thought Sarah Palin was supposed to increase turnout with Republican voters. So why did they stay home on Nov 4th. Perhaps because they did not like Palin or McCain? I don't think the GOP has a clue what there base is anymore.

Zogby, being a right leaning pollster, might try to paint Obama supporters as inferior, but how do you explain Warren Buffett, General Colin Powell and many thousands of Republicans who also voted for Obama.

I agree the general populace is strikingly uninformed across the board. Our public schools have not been up to the task, that is obvious. Still, people that swear by right wing hate radio and spread lies about Obama being a Muslim, a socialist, a terrorist and a baby killer can't exactly be geniuses either.

Pick your own poison. I'll stay with the Dems, thank you.

Phoenician Lady of AZ 8:49PM November 20, 2008

Imagine anyone heretical enough to "deny" the existence of global warming, just because the globe is cooling.Next thing you know some radical conservative will deny that Obama is diety. No wonder the Zogby poll unmasked Obama voters as imbeciles

Melissa of CT 2:54PM November 20, 2008

Well, let's see. So far on these postings we've heard someone denying the existence of global warming as a man made threat, and someone casting hate mongers rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity as "defenders of the truth".

The credibility of the fringe right is being totally lost with younger voters, and more and more fiscal conservatives are turned off and tuned out too. Stay the course! I think that's the absolutely right thing to do!!!

Phoenician Lady of AZ 11:17AM November 20, 2008

Oh for Chrissakes, more crying and whining by the right ideological idiots. As far as I'm concerned they deal with their foes by character assination or real assination as was the case with JFK, MLK and RFK. Hannity, Limbaugh and O'Reilly are not bearers of truth and never have been and talk about intellectually bankrupt, the two California postings here are the same partisan rantings that you can hear any day on Fox news, the sound of whining and crying is deafening. I especially destest the posting from the jerks in California who are more concerned about the welfare of chickens than people. Keep crying and whining, you still lost on November 4th plain and simple so get used to it. I also suggest your real problems are based in bigotry and not much else.

DavidBronx of NY 5:04PM November 19, 2008

With Limbaugh and Hannity leading the way,

the Republicans fill the old saw: I know my

enemies but God save me from my friends.
