The Vatican Should Exalt Catholic Nuns, Not Upbraid Them

The same debates occurred during Vatican II and the broadening of lay members functions, but there wasn't the same vitriolic rhetoric. The church changed Reluctantly then and so eventually it will recognize that it has gay members, members who use contraception and that it's religious may question doctrine. The church has lost most of its credibility due to the on-going pedophile scandal.

What a l0oad of dim-witted tripe. the Magisterium dressed down the faithless LCWR, not all nuns. Of course, consider the source, someone who idolizes the killer of Chappaquidick

Wow, you guys completely missed the point. Nobody should bother caring so much about church hierarchy like this. I'm pretty sure it's in the bible somewhere that being a zealot is considered to be worse than just being yourself and doing the best you can. A lot of these male religious leaders are starting to gross quite a number of their sheep who are getting increasingly cross about their archaic, often contradictory teachings that are useless for the Catholics of the modern world. Jesus apparently came to the Jews, stirred things up and changed the faith radically. Probably change is actually a goOd thing. No one can possibly believe that we humans interpreted the divine 100% correctly ... As we evolve culturally and morally, so should our faiths transcend values that were perhaps suitable 2000 years ago but face it dudes- not anymore. The catholic church as is is no longer doing its job effectively because they're ignoring problems they could actually do something about. Actually helping people, instead of desperately plotting to retain power they no longer deserve and forcing obsolete tenets down sane people's throats. Feed people! Shed the fancy robes and altars! Engage in healthy relationships with people! Stop hating! Stop meddling in political affairs! Recognize the right of Freedom of religion! Give people hope, not guilt. Do the job right!

These groups of dissident sisters and nuns are dying-out quite literally. No one wants to join the sexist/feminist-driven societies. Thankfully in their place with have larger and larger numbers of highly orthodox Catholic religious -- both women and men who are filling their ranks. Their time has come. Follow the faith or get out.

Many of these women have already been automatically excommunicated from the Church because they have facilitated abortions. Simply put you cannot be a professed religious of the Catholic Church and then turn your back on unchanging tenants of the Church. And no, their good works do not allow them to act with dissent. It's high time they were either reigned-in or cut loose.

The sisters and nuns of the Catholic Church are, today, the most authentic expression of Christ present in His Mystical Body and the Holy Spirit enlivening it. How can the bishops exhort the sisters to "clean house" when their own house is in such disgraceful disorder?

Physician, heal thyself!

Amen. Last month , my dear family friend, Sister Miriam Gregory Yochum died. She was an incredible woman. She was my principal for 6 years in Catholic school and a confidant of my father who was also a principal. After 34 years as principal, she and 2 other nuns were asked to leave the parish by an egomaniac pastor- who had already tried to close the nearby Catholic high school. Now he wanted to get his hands the on the elementary school. The bishops, msgrs and priests that practice their misogynist ideology on these incredible women will get their due one day. I have taught religious ed, been chair of the parish council, headed the youth group and still sing in the folk group. I think I have had enough. I will stop giving all money to the Catholic church and give it to the sisters. I have had enough. Even my 92 year old mother has had enough. She is not giving them money and is looking for a different church. For some of us that have taken alot of this sitting down. No more- me and my money are leaving and working with the good sisters.

The fulfillment of the prophecies by Jesus' Mother Mary are easily seen in the unpunished priestly abuse of young Catholics in their care and now the attack on the Sisters who are doing Jesus work. The Church as it is maintained by corrupt men is falling apart from the inside while the convents as maintained by holy women who love Jesus is succeeding both in spiritual and worldly matters.

Mr. Schaeffer and Mr. Lawerence, I totally agree with you that if people don't want to follow all aspects of the church, LEAVE!! In the end, only the TRUE Catholic believers will remain and the rest will be in one of the 31,000 other Protestant denominations, not likeing them either.

I was bred Catholic, born Catholic, communioned/confirmed Catholic, married Catholic, living to the best of my ability as a Catholic and Lord I hope to die as a Catholic!!! Praise be Jesus and his Church! all others get in line on the left and wait your turn to beg to be let in.
