We Shouldn't Be Focusing on Trayvon Martin's Hoodie

neitheir the shooter nor anyone in the involved law enforcement agency cited the hoodie as the ground or part of the ground for the shooter to call 911 about the victim or for the shooter to exit his vehicle with a gun [recklessly, negligently, and improperly, btw] and pursue the victim.

the hoodie-equals-hood nonsense was spewed by clowns like newt gingrich and geraldo rivera. it had nothing to do with the facts of this case or the conduct (i'd say MISconduct) of the shooter, law enforcement, and the prosecutor's office.

and the screaming and yelling and marching, from both sides of this issue, about the hoodie has only contributed to the distortions and hysteria that are keeping this horrible episode from being given the kind of professional and fair investigation it requires.

"When did hoodies become synonymous with hoods?'

Probably at about the same time that the inner city hoods adopted them as a symbol of their hood-ishness. it was, after all, the hoods that started them as some sort of fashion symbol.

In a neighborhood that has been filled with break-in and theft over the years, yeah... a guy wearing a hoodie at night does seem a little suspicious to me.

As much as you want it to be, this isn't a race issue. It's just a tragic incident involving dumb and dumber.

Zimmerman (the dumb), for ignoring 911 dispatcher and following Martin.

Martin (dummber) for trying to be a tough guy and fighting with Zimmerman after he eluded Zimmerman.

Intelligent, tasteful, and thoughtful without prejudice. You should train the media, Susan Milligan! Maybe, though, because you have benefitted from time and distance.

Crime after crime where the only description of the perpetrator is "white male wearing jeans" is a reality, do we start shooting whites with jeans?

Face it, both black people and hoodies are extremely common, so we should expect that combination to also be common, even in crime reports. Take shoes: almost all crimes are commited in shoes! That doesn't imply that shoes are signs of criminal intent.
