Bruce:

Yes, there may indeed need to be a bureau dedicated to consumer protection, but if there is to be one, there needs to be strict limits to its power - such unchecked government power can cause chaos when the employees begin to think that they have some sort of anti-business mandate.

Remember - these bureaus have the power to issue any mandates they think necessary, and such mandates have the power of law - power unaccountable to anyone.

A letter from your bank saying they will charge you a new $5 monthly fee for debit card use would be enough to pissoff most so they shop for a new bank or credit union.

So what's stopping you from not getting pissedoff about a not-so-hidden monthly fee of $250-$750 from the federal gov't via the empire-funding individual income tax? And shopping around for a better deal?

Only yourself.

brucetee _ Says “banks and other financial insitutions always dealt in an above board manner ”

Lawyer obuma and Acorn after law suite against Citi Bank with out of court settlement threaten banks calling them RACIST if not making unqualified home loans. Clinton pushed for more unqualified home buyers approvals as well. My bringing up lawyer obuma and Acorn was germane.

See link in my previous comment.

Call it “stone walling” or whatever you want. Democrats pulled the same thing to stop appointees during recess and stop Bush from making appointments...

Bill Hedges of MO 9:31PM January 05, 2012

junior had the banks and other financial insitutions always dealt in an above board manner there would be no need for such agency.

as to enzo's comment.the republicans ,in the senate, have been stone walling this matter for over a year.this law was passed by congress,it past time for it to be implemented.

recess appointments have been used by presidents of BOTH parties for years. so your crying foul is unfounded.

"Senate Left Obama With No Choice Over Richard Cordray Appointment"

Uh, yes they did. Obama could have waited until they came back in session instead of acting like a dictator and breaking the law to get his way.

Bruce:

"it shows, once again that the republicans have little ,or no,intrest in protecting the american consumer."

I suppose that you just love government bureaucracies that have no checks and have unlimited power to regulate - regardless of the financial consequences?

If being recalcitrant is the worst that someone can be called for wishing to make damned sure that a new agency cannot run amuck, well, that is entirely acceptable to the republicans.

junior of DC 6:11PM January 05, 2012

once again mr. bill is off the rails with another one of his off topic rants.this time it;s about acorn.

mr. bill case you misunderstood my comment was on the appointment of richard cordray to head the c.f.p.d.this was done because of the republicans failure to act in a responsible manner.this is the type of skulduggery that the repubs have engaged in since pres. obama took office,

the republican have no interest in the well being of the average american.so this is in keeping with their pact actions.

bruce b of NV 6:03PM January 05, 2012

brucetee says “republicans have little ,or no,intrest in protecting the american consumer”. Similar argument is Republicans are against clean water & air. Always the extremist exaggeration.

Lawyer obuma and Acorn had a big part in this recession. Reason for this new agency is to protect consumers:

“Obama Sued Citibank Under CRA to Force it to Make Bad Loans – UPDATED”

http://iusbvision.wordpress.com/2008/09/30/obama-sued-citibank-under-cra-to-force-it-to-make-bad-loans/

Many links are tied to this article. Making many connections to obuma, Acorn & this recession. The BUM wanted control of census with Acorn involved. obama & Acorn a unholy alliance. That was stopped. Lawyer obuma got settlement in court suite, using Community Reinvestment Modernization Act., against Citi Bank. With threat of commonly used RACIST threat got other banks to follow bad business practices. Where were Clinton’s bank examiners during this time ? Turning their eyes away from Clinton’s bad housing plan. Ignoring previous good banking home loan procedures.

Little doubt similar situation will result in name of protection to harm our banking system again. Dodd-Frank bill has two major player participants involved in the banking scandals Dodd & Frank. Frank’s boyfriend works in F/F. Frank said in banking crisis and against Bush banking regulation that there was __ no problem __ . Dodd-Frank bill does not even effect Fannie and Freddie. Debtcontinues there as obuma gave BLANK CHECK to F/F.

As far a Scott Brown, he was against waterboarding and obumacare. I call him nieve in this case...

Bill Hedges of MO 3:18PM January 05, 2012

there points to be made on both sides of the argument, that being said, congress passed the law establishing this new agency.it needs a director to make it fully operational and preform the duties it was intended to do.

once again the recalcitrant republicans have stonewalled, for the simple reason that they donn;t approve of the c.f.p.b.it shows, once again that the republicans have little ,or no,intrest in protecting the american consumer.

it,s worth noting that republican senator scott brown of massachusetts back the presidents action.

bruce b of NV 11:24AM January 05, 2012

But preventing the president from putting his own people in senior jobs, absent legitimate questions about the nominee's qualifications, subverts the separation of powers as well."

Geeze, Susan. Isn't it the duty of Congress to approve or disapprove the president "putting one of his own people" into a job that the Congress may or may not like?

Isn't it the duty of Congress to protect the public from overreaching government bureaucracies?

Isn't that exactly what Congress was doing?

Obama isn't a King or dictator, Milligan. Get over it.
