2012 Republicans Risk Repeating John Kerry's 2004 Mistakes
Tweet Share on Facebook December 29, 2011 Comment (13)Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich thinks former Gov. Mitt Romney is not a true conservative. Romney compared Gingrich to the character of Lucy Ricardo in her iconic performance as an assembly-line worker in a candy factory (great episode; bizarre comparison) and says Gingrich is guilty of his own flip-flops on healthcare. Rep. Ron Paul has come under attack for old newsletters that contain racist, anti-Semitic, and homophobic content. And all of the members of the GOP field decree President Obama is a hapless, barely-competent politician who knows nothing about the economy.

Why Ben Nelson Is Leaving the Senate
Tweet Share on Facebook December 28, 2011 Comment (2)To those who don't know Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the explanation he has given for deciding to retire sounds like a bad cliché for vulnerable politicians. He wants, the affable lawmaker said, to spend more time with his family.

For Newt Gingrich, the Personal is Political
Tweet Share on Facebook December 27, 2011 Comment (12)So-called "character" issues in presidential campaigns often look like silly luxuries when there are serious issues to be tackled in public policy. Certainly now, when the country is struggling out of a brutal recession, recovering from the human and financial cost of the war in Iraq, and trying to extricate itself from Afghanistan, we have some serious matters that ought to take precedence over any candidate's personal life. The question for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is whether—as feminists were fond of saying in the 1970s—the personal is, in fact, political.

Tea Party Harms 2012 Prospect of a GOP Senate
Tweet Share on Facebook December 27, 2011 Comment (11)Six-term Sen. Richard Lugar, an Indiana Republican who faces a primary challenge from a Tea Party movement-backed opponent, was spot-on when he assessed the impact of the right-wing, selectively libertarian movement. He told CNN:

Voters Won't Blame Obama, Democrats If Payroll Tax Break Expires
Tweet Share on Facebook December 22, 2011 Comment (12)Newt Gingrich, PhD, likes to remind people of his background as a historian. And when it comes to modern United States history, Gingrich indeed knows what he's talking about.

ABC’s Work It Is Not Only Bigoted, It’s Inaccurate
Tweet Share on Facebook December 21, 2011 Comment (10)Advocates for the rights and dignity of gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgendered people are very upset about a new TV show called Work It, and it's understandable. The highly offensive basis for the sitcom, according to ABC, is two unemployed men who have "learned the hard way that the current recession is more of a 'man-cession' and their skills aren't in high demand." So what's an unemployed man to do? In ABC's offering, he dresses up in heels, a skirt, and make-up to get a job as a salesperson at a pharmaceutical company.

NTSB Right About Cell Phones, Texting While Driving
Tweet Share on Facebook December 20, 2011 Comment (6)Take a random poll, and most likely you'll find that the overwhelming majority of other drivers are idiots. Those same drivers are certain that they themselves are safe and courteous operators of ever-larger pieces of machinery.

Newt Gingrich’s Dictatorial View of 'Activist Judges'
Tweet Share on Facebook December 19, 2011 Comment (19)In 2009, Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich slammed President Obama for shaking the hand of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez at the Summit of the Americas. White House officials at the time noted that it was just a handshake at an international meeting of world leaders, and did not constitute any sanction of Chavez's rather disturbing behavior. But Gingrich said Obama was boosting the "enemies of America."

Why Running a Business Is Different Than Running the Government
Tweet Share on Facebook December 15, 2011 Comment (3)Lawmakers are very skilled and responsible at reducing and eliminating debt—as long as it's campaign debt. The federal budget? Not so much.

Mitt Romney Can't Catch a Break--Christine O'Donnell Endorses Him
Tweet Share on Facebook December 14, 2011 Comment (10)Former Gov. Mitt Romney just can't seem to get a break. And most recently, it's not because of an endorsement he failed to get. It's because of one he just received, from failed Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, best known for her creepy TV ad reassuring voters that she is not a witch.
