Less often mentioned, but highly worthy of praise in the recent history of women’s advancement, is Betty Ford.

Men Outgaining Women for Jobs in the Recovery
Tweet Share on Facebook July 8, 2011 Comment (4)Men were disproportionately hurt in the job market during the Great Recession, losing 5.2 million jobs from December 2007 to June 2009, compared to 2.1 million for female workers during the same time period. But as the country climbs its way painfully into a recovery, it is men who are disproportionately getting the new jobs. According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, males have picked up 768,000 jobs in the recovery, and women just 218,000.

It seems not, unfortunately. Vin Weber, an adviser to former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, one of Bachmann’s GOP primary rivals, assessed Bachmann’s strengths to The Hill newspaper by saying, "She's got hometown appeal, she's got ideological appeal, and, I hate to say it, but she's got a little sex appeal too."

Tweet Share on Facebook July 6, 2011 Comment (42)Something terrible happened to 2-year-old Caylee Anthony, but a jury has decided it wasn’t due to murder by the girl’s mother, Casey Anthony. That verdict has caused an outcry among people with way too much time on their hands who have been following the case and salivating at the prospect of the execution of a 25-year-old woman described as being more interested in partying than parenting. Perhaps Casey Anthony did, as legions of angry Internet posters have categorically judged, "get away with murder;" an alternate juror interviewed on the Today show said that the verdict was due to the fact that prosecutors had not proven her guilt without reasonable doubt.

Former IMF chief and French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arguably denied this proudly American right when he was indicted for sexual assault and attempted rape of a housekeeper at a fancy New York hotel. And now, his accuser is being subject to the same rush to judgment.
