House GOP Wastes Time on Inane Light Bulb Battle

We need more government regulation in our lives.... The Barney Fifes of the world haven't even begun to regulate us properly.

We need;

1. Regulations regarding toothbrush bristle stiffness and toothpaste/mouthwash flavors. Our dental health is at risk!

2. Outlaw caffeine, sugar, saturated fat and any food with flavor... No more nervous fat people.

3. Cars must be made entirely of recycled paper mache' and powered by large recycled, rubber-bands.

4. Government controlled thermostats in every home and business. Big Brother knows best!

5. Save the rain forest! Use your bare hand to wipe - rinse sparingly - keep your wiping hand in your pocket. The Nature Goddess will love the smell.

6. Outlaw all herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Less food production and vector control will result in more dead people - the DDT ban kills millions every year - ultimately a good thing for the planet.

7. A mandatory sunset curfew. It takes more energy to be out at night and illuminate a city. Stay in your home, watch state sponsored T.V. while eating a celery stick (no salt).

8. Pets are energy consumers! Kill them and sell the carcasses to Chinese restaurants. Moo-Shu Meow and Bow-Wow Chou Mien. Waste not, want not.

9. Prohibit alcohol, tobacco and firearms. Save lives, and we could disband the Department of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco. A win - win!

10. Close prisons and build labor camps. We'll have many more lawbreakers under ever increasing regulations. Use them to plow fields for crops, turn flour mills, crush rocks for roads, row ferries around and haul cargo on their backs. See the films "Ben Hur", "The Ten Commandments" and "Spartacus" for details.

Welcome to our Green Brave World! This is only the beginning! Have you seen, "Soylent Green"?

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, MetaCent .com

Mercury...

"Advice on its website states: “Energy efficient light bulbs are not a danger to the public."

“Although they contain mercury, limited at 5mg per lamp, it cannot escape from a lamp that is intact"

Sectary Chu knows which light bulb is best for YOU. He understands which bulbs:

use electricity most efficiently, are most efficient to manufacture (leveraging Chinese labor), provide the desired spectrum of light, provide the best quality of light (ignore comments from users on this), do the least harm to the environment (forget that mercury crap), are made by the company that contributed the most to the correct political campaigns, will last the longest (though my experience has been CFLs don't last very long I may have got a bad batch), are cheapest, are made by the company spending the most for congressional lobbying, best endure the tight poorly ventilated spaces (ignore comments from users on this), are most heat tolerant (ignore comments from users on this), flickers at exactly the right rate (some claim this irritates them but if you just relax perhaps it will make you smarter), turn on quickly enough for your needs, use materials with stable prices, work with dimmer switches (ignore comments from users on this) are easiest to dispose of properly (ignore self-appointed experts on this).

Dr. Chu knows your “time value of money” he knows how much additional immediate expense you should incur for the long-term savings he has calculated for your personal situation. Do you know all this? No. So rest your brain and let Dr. Chu decide for you.

LED bulbs are here now, in standard lightbulb shape and size starting at 1 Watt.  They are simple to make, and affordable starting at $2.75 (here) http://www.LEDlightforhome.com/ LED Home Light Bulbs use standard size E27 connections to replace your old incandescent and CFL light bulbs using hardly any electricity.  They produce more light, use less power, give off almost no heat and last for years.  Unlike CFL fluorescents, LEDs are instant on, with no flickering and no toxic mercury vapor inside.  Ultra low wattage use as little as 1W power compared to 100W incandescents.  They are environmentally safe and they save you money.  The CFL era is already over.  CFLs are as obsolete as incandescents.  Spread the word.

"The (2007) bill was not just a light bulb bill. It contained more than $20 billion in tax hikes, while doing nothing to increase American energy production," Nunes said in a statement."

Afraid consumers will reject purchasing new bulb ? Need monopoly. Want to enforce businesses in hard economic time the expense of changing lighting fixtures where necessary.

Like added taxes I wonder...

Hotter'nHeckInTulsa, Pray of OK_ “luddite” Afraid is you being left behind in transformation. Do remember Nov. 2, 2010...

Lots of talk that bulb bill was passed under Bush. No WHAT !!! Democrat fought slavery reform and Republican who sought freedom for Blacks. barry created a TEA group. A new Republican Party is rising from the ashes. Like a mythical bird. Liberal give far too may negatives unearned by Bush. Liberals wish to narrow the peoples RIGHT OF CORSE. In some cases necessary, but with light bulbs, ah NO. We will see if Supreme Court rules in favor of mandatory obamacare.

As far as working on important issues of the day, we have presented bills. Only bill by your side was by President, $$$ 9.5 new debt over time according to CBO. It got laughed out of DC. Democrats controlled WH & Congress could not come up with budget when due Oct. 1, 2010.

Democrats are back seat drivers. Complainers. Doing NOTHING TO HELP STEER. What was that saying, oh yes, “party of no” with control of Senate and WH. Democrats need another election. First two years, Democrats controlled, until voters TOOK AWAY the rights..

Bill Hedges of MO 12:47AM July 19, 2011

Ha,ha,ha. You make me laugh.

Hotter'nHeckInTulsa, Pray of OK 11:03PM July 18, 2011

You want to provide a link to your source? Regardless, inserting the language and passing the bill are two different things. It was a Democrat controlled Congress that passed it.

Step away from the Internet and stop trolling. You're too ignorant to contribute anything meaningful.

Rich of CO 10:55PM July 18, 2011

You are full of bullinhofe: read this Luddite.

Representative Fred Upton, Republican of Michigan, who now heads the House Energy and Commerce Committee, inserted the light bulb standards in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which President George W. Bush signed into law.

Sometimes I think republicans are illiterate. Now, I ask you, what kind of fools would get a bill passed one year and then come the next year and rail against it as big gov. You fools would. Your cult of stupidity is getting stupider.

When you go to sleep tonight, ask yourself, " am I a Luddite?"
