Obama's Immigration Push Is Not Just Politics; It's Good Policy
Tweet Share on Facebook May 11, 2011 Comment (18)Some conservatives are grousing that President Obama’s visit to the United States-Mexican border on Wednesday was merely a pander to win back disaffected Hispanic voters, whose support is desperately needed for Obama to win re-election. That’s quite possibly true. But it doesn’t mean Washington shouldn’t do immigration reform.

New York GOPer Follows Trump Act as Campaign Clown
Tweet Share on Facebook May 10, 2011 Comment (4)Donald Trump’s penchant for self-promotion and exaggeration is an amusing distraction in what should be a serious campaign populated by (some) serious candidates. But there’s reason for concern that it’s catching.

Take Note, Tea Party: Government Workers Got Osama bin Laden
Tweet Share on Facebook May 9, 2011 Comment (17)To the anti-union governors, the Tea Partyers, the whiner down the street who is convinced that everyone in the public sector enjoys a high salary and benefits for doing a cushy job, let us consider the government worker whose effort we have witnessed in the past week.

Not Releasing bin Laden Death Photo Is Smart
Tweet Share on Facebook May 4, 2011 Comment (26)It was inevitable, with the emergence and escalation of the "birther" campaign, that we would experience the same bizarre skepticism when it comes to Osama bin Laden. Donald Trump Can't Take a Joke, Even If His 2012 Campaign Is One
Tweet Share on Facebook May 4, 2011 Comment (12)You know a candidate is done for when people start to feel sorry for him or her. There was Ed Muskie, apparently choking up in tears (or near tears) in New Hampshire during the 1972 primary, upset about attacks in a local paper. There are the scores of candidates for president and statewide office who continue to show up at campaign events, believing they can win, despite the fact that fewer and fewer voters are showing up to see them. There was Adm. James Stockdale, looking as perplexed as anyone else when he appeared as the Reform Party candidate at the 1992 vice presidential debate. "Who am I? Why am I here?" Stockdale asked rhetorically, seemingly unaware that his was a serious question.

Celebrations After bin Laden's Death Went Too Far
Tweet Share on Facebook May 3, 2011 Comment (29)Osama bin Laden’s death--his assassination, to be accurate--understandably unleashes a series of emotions among Americans. There is relief, satisfaction, celebration, worry about retribution, and even some sense of disappointment that finally killing the man who had been Public Enemy Number One still doesn’t really give closure to everyone affected by the events of September 11. And "everyone," of course, is all of us, although some of us were tragically more personally affected by it than others.

Osama bin Laden's Killing Vindicates Obama's Approach
Tweet Share on Facebook May 2, 2011 Comment (16)It was a very different Barack Obama who stood in the White House late Sunday to deliver the astounding and satisfying news that Osama bin Laden was dead. Or was it?
