Egypt Protests Show That Poverty Is a Threat to Global Security

The Egyptian People, by forcing the resignation of hated Neo-Con Puppet Mubarak, have ended 30 of Neo-Con political control over their government; as did the Iranian People, when they forced the resignation of the hated Neo-Con Puppet Palavi. And, with the Turkish People under the strong leadership of Erdogan, having rejected the hated Neo-Con imposed policies toward the British apartheid state of Israel, there has been a cataclysmic shift of balance of power in the Middle East which has ended the pernicious political control by the hated Neo-Cons over the Middle East. All of the Arab Peoples are now finally free to determine their own governmental policies.

In America, these hated Neo-Cons, insidious agents of the Israel Lobby, are under political attack by the Kennedy Liberals, the Reagan Conservatives, the Ron Paul Libertarians, and the Bachmann Tea Parties.

If poverty is so rampant in Egypt, why does the Egyptian government allow 20,000 Americans to hold jobs there...jobs that Egyptians would love to have?

Susan Milligan has a good article but as most progressives she emphasizes "income inequality" on the same level as is poverty. Pure POVERTY and Leadership and bureaucratic GREED/corruption are much larger problems throughout the Third World countries than the poor's envy of income inequality. Over Population is the problem in China and India.

What the world's poor is seeking is OPPORTUNITY to work and provide for their families. Susan is correct - throwing money at the problem is not the answer. OPPORTUNITY is what our government should work to give the USA's citizens (not welfare) and OPPORTUNITY is what the United Nations (and our Foreign Policy) should support for the world's workers.

Unfortunately, the United Nations wants redistribution just like our current administration.

Poverty is mainly caused by overpopulation in poor countries who cannot create enough jobs to employ the young people. Attack on overpopulation, which is associated with wrong religious philosophy and poor education of women should be the main target in the fight against poverty. Finantial help brings only very temporary relief. Support of education of women and rewards for voluntary sterilization should be the main activity of help to poor countries.

Hunger and want have consistently been the cause for most political upheavals and national revolutions. Until these international problems are irradicated they will always be the underlying causes for world unrest.

The root cause of this type of discontent is population growth that results in a lot of suffering. Of course corruption and unfairness play a role but at some point over-population will be felt.

Based on the other post, fruit trees are a good idea but the devil is in the details. If they all die, nothing gained. China has some fiascos with trees.

I have always thought that paying locals to plant fruit trees on public land would be an efficient use of aid money. It gives a little bit of cash earnings to the poor at first, then a means of earning a little more by picking and selling the resulting fruit. I think this would work even if their government charged a modest fee to buy a harvesting permit.
