Max Boot's Dangerous, Deluded Vision

What I find interesting is using 20/20 vision as perspective of historical events that happened 40 years ago. And yet, that same 20/20 vision was the perspective used as a catalyst of Korea and Viet Nam. Which all stemmed from Germany and Russias conquest of Europe and Asia.

How quickly we forget 1930 British Appeasment policy under Neville Chamberlain and how he caved to Nazi Agression? Now we look back and say that Neville Chamberlain was the biggest coward in the world. The spread of Nazi Germany could/should/would have been held in check had Europe been more united and the British had bigger cajones. But alas, no. The world stilled licked its fresh wounds sustained from WWI and was loathe to repeat the atrocity. So, people/nations capitulated in the face of aggression. That was the lesson learned and the lesson applied to naked aggression by communist aggression visa vie Korea and Viet Nam.

So, win/lose/draw the message was clear to communist expansion: Communist hegemony would come at a price.

Furthermore, I spent two years in Colombia (1993-1995). I can tell you with certainty that politically that nation was a hair away from absolute anarchy had the United States not intervened to the extent it did. Now, today, Colombia is politically more stable. The country is not out of the woods yet, but it is going in the right direction.

Is that Gilderoy Hogbottom's brother-in-law? ....must be Stephen Glain's uncle's son, twice removed.

Are we supposed to keep track of these unknown newbies as if we all had no lives, or what?

...then again, I can't believe I'm responding to this doehead!

I agree with Rich Mr. Glain; the claims you make about Mr. Boot's article are poorly supported by what Mr. Boot actually wrote.

as to the current situation in iraq,we have invested more than enough blood and treasure in that sandbox. as a former senator once said about vietnam"it;s time to declare victory and come home"

Did you read the article, Stephen? I did... I didn't see anywhere that Max Boot said al Qaeda formed because of our involvement in Vietnam, as you imply.

Be critical of those you disagree with, but do it in an intellectually honest manner.

But I agree, it is sunset for America and time to pull in the outposts of our nation.

The mistakes you make Mr. Glain are a failure to appreciate a full and unbiased panorama of history and a pollyannaish assumption that our enemies won't be coming for us.

The world will not be a better place with a weak, prostrated America.
