Rick Perry's Nuclear 'War with the Federal Government'
Tweet Share on Facebook January 17, 2012 Comment (10)When I asked, some months back, what, besides slavery, Gov. Rick Perry disliked about the Constitution of the Confederate States of America, I thought afterward that maybe I'd been a little too flippant.

Mitt Romney's Ridiculous Defense of Bain Capital
Tweet Share on Facebook January 12, 2012 Comment (7)I have to say, when I recommended a few ways that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, then at his peak, could attack former Gov. Mitt Romney, it never occurred to me that he would bring up Bain Capital.

Ron Paul Won't Be Much of a Thorn in Mitt Romney's Side

In New Hampshire Speech, Mitt Romney Walks Into Bain Trap
Tweet Share on Facebook January 10, 2012 Comment (2)Today I happened to be reading Thomas Frank’s new book Pity the Billionaire: The Hard-Times Swindle and the Unlikely Comeback of the Right. I’ve only just cracked it, but my initial impression is that Frank overstates the degree to which the Tea Party actually believes its Manichean rhetoric about socialism and free enterprise. I’ve written about this many times before, so there’s no need to rehash it tonight. With that in mind, I’m wondering this: Is former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in danger of overreacting to former Speaker Newt Gingrich’s attacks on his record at Bain Capital?

Why an Anti-Romney Alliance Won't Work
Tweet Share on Facebook January 5, 2012 Comment (7)The latest polling out of New Hampshire shows Gov. Rick Perry with nary a political pulse.
Since he notched a disappointing but nontrivial 10 percent in Iowa, one would be tempted to conclude that the transference of Perry's support to another candidate—say, former Sen. Rick Santorum—could make trouble for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

After Iowa, It's Still Mitt Romney's Nomination to Lose

Iowa Caucuses Bring Troubling Returns for the GOP
Tweet Share on Facebook January 3, 2012 Comment (5)As I write, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and Rep. Ron Paul are locked in a tight three-way race in the Iowa caucuses.
The short-term takeaway from the cable coverage is that Romney has failed to outperform, and will probably underperform in raw vote total, his 2008 tally in the Hawkeye State.

Why Mitt Romney Is Unbeatable
Tweet Share on Facebook January 3, 2012 Comment (9)The word on Conventional Wisdom Street is that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is steaming-mad at former Gov. Mitt Romney, having watched his Lazarus-like candidacy fall back into the second tier, thanks to relentless negative ads from the Romney and Rep. Ron Paul camps.
