What to Love About the Republican Presidential Debates

That's what I get for quoting from a book (Viereck's "Unadjusted Man in the Age of Overadjustment") without having read it yet. ... Now that I have, I'm compelled to add that Viereck used the term "unadjusted" to mean a healthy sort of nonconformism and individualism.

Ron Paul conceivably meets that definition, but not in the sense that I used it above. My bad.

Mr. Santorum's near-singular issue is the sanctity of the heterosexual nuclear family, a concept generally valued within Republican circles even as the same people who praise it call for a near-singular focus on profit and personal gain that drives apart families, communities, and the entire nation. Congressman Paul is refreshing because his emphasis on individual liberty does not assume that one's personal preference is to pursue riches, and he absolutely shuns the conformist morality trotted out by other Republicans.

All things being equal, I would not choose Ron Paul as the President from a list of ideals. But he is honest, of good character, and thoroughly consistent. I would vote for him over any candidate on the current list, and that includes President Obama.
