According to CNN exit-polling data, senior citizens broke big for Republicans this year.

This is the snake lurking in the grass of the GOP's new majority: If their electoral triumph was predicated on seniors' disgruntlement with Obamacare--which takes money out of their Medicare dollars out of their pocket and gives it to other, younger voters--that's hugely problematic for any hope of entitlement reform.

In fact, it's precisely the opposite message that the likes of Rand Paul claim they're sending to Washington.

Note well, Republicans. Note well.

What republican health plan???!!??

If I hear that Social security is an entitlement program one more time, I'll throw up. I have paid into that program for 56 years and if I invested that money into very average stocks and bonds, it would be worth approximately 1.26million by now. I will have to live to 96 just to break even. I have also been paying into medicare since it started and pay monthly fes for certain parts of it.

I do think that they should slowly raise the full retirement age and remove the cap on earnings so that the system will be solvent for our future generations.

I also took a beating on my fees from medicare while in medical practice. I can assure you they do not overpay primary care docs. A number of years ago I sent in a bill for about 18 grand and received a check from the feds for 3800 bucks. This is quite common in the health care arena. When the government was not involved in our health care, the insurers paid what we billed and there was always time and money to provide free care for those who needed it. Now with the insanely high paperwork requirements and crappy reimbursements, there is room for nothing. Keep it up and no one will go into medicine in the future.

As a senior, I'm willing to sacrifice for the commonweal; but only after some of the corruption, absurdities, and craziness in our profligate spending are ended, like benefits for illegal aliens and Wall St. Illegal entry is a crime, and it's insane that aliens should be able to obtain benefits for themselves and their anchor babies through criminal activity, and the same goes for Wall St. tycoons.

As long as corruption and special interests rule the roost in Washington, I don't think seniors have any qualms in playing the game and using their voting power for self interest, indifferent to the commonweal, as the Dems are learning.
