The Post’s Cooked Poll and Obama’s Tax Class Warfare

Bush was not a small government conservative like Reagan... he was a big government conservative--a big reason why many people became frustrated with him.

McCain is not like Bush. Infact, McCain will be more hawkish on spending than Reagan was...

McCain is running to REFORM government... He abhors wasteful spending... that means he is going to continue to reject pork barrel spending and earmarks... and save tax payers money instead of raising taxes which Obama is promising to do.

Obama will be more like Bush= out of control spending.

Out of control spending is something the American people are tired of.

I read this piece and the Washington Post article and have found no basis for the author's rhetoric ("bizarre", "misleading," and so forth). What is bizarre and misleading is the author's belief that We the People should not have to pay taxes. Perhaps he hasn't heard about the record deficit. When we don't pay taxes, our children will. How is that fiscally conservative? Or responsible?

Perhaps people don't believe that John McCain will cut taxes because, given the deficit and the fact that we have two wars going on (remember those?), it's not possible. But McCain's campaign increasingly is based on pure lies, bolstered by puff pieces like this.

Obama says he'll raise income taxes on the top 5%. But that's just the start.

He also says he'll raise social security taxes. And he'll raise capital gains taxes. And he'll impose a windfall tax on the oil industry. And he'll raise inheritance taxes. And he'll raise corporate income taxes.

So everybody believes that he'll raise taxes on just about everyone. And everyone's right.

Why in the world does cutting taxes at a time when the U.S. is already $3 trillion in the hole and falling deeper and deeper in debt to China and Middle Eastern oil sheikhs, does cutting taxes make any sense at all? Neocon, libertarian and GOP small-government evangelists have had their chance for the past eight years. Sorry Reaganites, government is not the problem.Obama claims he will raise taxes on the highest earners and cut them or leave the Bush cuts in place for the shrinking middle class. McCain promises to keep or extend the Bush tax cuts and to cut government spending, but the spending cut part is a promise he can't deliver on and more than Bush could.

Obama wants to send spending through the roof...

Over a trillion dollars in extra spending...

The numbers don't add up if he only taxes the rich...

He will have to tax the rest of us too if we are to afford his proposals.
