Obama Campaign Fund-raising Off Sarah Palin 'Civil War' Comments

March 12, 2012 RSS Feed Print

Truly, former half-term Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the gift that keeps on giving. Obama campaign manager Jim Messina sent an E-mail to supporters Saturday flagging the latest Palin-ism, from an appearance on Sean Hannity's Fox News Channel television show. "She accused President Obama of discrimination, saying he was taking the country back 'to days before the Civil War, when unfortunately too many Americans mistakenly believed that not all men were created equal,'" Messina wrote, adding, "And she wasn't kidding."

Palin had made the comments on Hannity's show last Thursday. According to ThinkProgress, she added that:

Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.

That seems like a reasonable assertion on Palin's part. One can easily imagine President Obama sitting in the Oval Office yearning to exchange the burdens of the presidency for the opportunity to be bought and sold as chattel.

Messina's E-mail ("Sorry to bring up Sarah Palin on what was otherwise a perfectly good Saturday," he wrote) asked supporters for a $3 contribution—enough to build donor lists, keep supporters engaged, and goose the campaign's base of small dollar donors.

Using caricatures of high profile members of the opposing party to raise money and organize is a tried and true part of politics. For years Democrats raised cash off of Jesse Helms, for example. The GOP used Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton to the same effect. The virtue of Sarah Palin so far as Democrats are concerned, however, is that she doesn't require caricature; all she needs is a television camera.

howardof NE, I very much understand commentary, and I also understand and recognize when liberals, like you, continue their relentless attack on Gov. Palin. I personally like the fact that Gov. Palin calls it like she sees it, as compared to the endless lies and excuses from obama. And if you want to talk about gas bag all you need to do is look at the White House for that. And that gas bag is also corrupt as they come, if not for the color of his skin he would have been run out of town long ago, but if anyone dares to disagree with the liar and Chief are automatically labeled a racist, why is that?

As far as the deficit goes you are clueless. Did the GOP play a part in the debt, yes but not as big as the democrats, starting with FDR. I also remember that the democrats voted to support the two wars which in our government means they agreed to fund them. President Bush told the nation that this was not going to end quickly and that the fight would take a long time, longer than his administration, so we were warned. On that note if your beloved clinton would have done his job instead of playing around with everything in a skirt these wars could have possibly been avoided, but I digress.

I have read and continue to re-read the Constitution and the Federalist Papers and anything I can about the Founding Fathers, why do you need me to read it to you so you can understand it? Better yet Hillsdale College is offering a free course on the Constitution, here’s the link: http://constitution.hillsdale.edu/. I hope this will be of some benefit to you.

Other party caricature

Of high profilers in the news,

Tried true politics for sure,

Part of why We the People lose.

The game is trash the other side,

And twist the truth in any way.

It's who and what gets better lied

That determines election day.

If politicians told the truth

About themselves, then we might take

That truth into the voting booth.

What a difference that could make!

As it is, all we have are lies

About those other gals and guys.

ROBERT, SAVE YOUR INK...

The Progressive elite, and their minions of lurching, glassy-eyed Obamatrons, will reelect the vacuous, grinning huckster with the help of the mountain of loot he's be out collecting 24/7.

So like I said - save your ink or write about something important.
