Spoken like a true morally bankrupt liberal. Of course infidelity matters. Character is the single most important attribute in a leader. MLK was compromised as a leader because of his indiscretions. FDR? Please. His lack of taking personal responsibility translated into public policy that shifted responsibility from the individual onto someone or something else. Namely the government.
Ross Perot said it best in the '92 campaign. If your wife can't trust you, neither can I.

Ah, irrelevant, how so? It's pretty funny that when the naughty sex shoe is on the other political foot (Republican) the issue suddenly becomes a "non-issue."
I guess in Republican world, a consensual adulterous affair in which one of the party is a Republican is no one's business--tell that to Bill Clinton and every other Democrat these Republican hypocrites have persecuted and driven from public service
Gingrich has no political "footing" on this issue either. Any man who conducts an adulterous affair while his wife is in the hospital fighting cancer should not be running for president.
Or does the author think that Gingrich's dirty laundry is also "irrelevant"?

Mr. Schlesinger, As a young boy I was taught a man would be judged by his moral character and integrity. Also that a man shall honor any vows or oath he may take. Herman Cain appears to have neither morals or integrity. And by your article, it would appear you don't either.
And no I'm not a Republican. I'm completely Independent.
