I love the "idea" of Social Security but it may very well be that it's time has come to end.

It is really great to be part of the generation that passes along the promise of a lower standard of living to our children. Yes, I would like to have Social Security. I would also like free Medical care, a guaranteed income for life, paid vacations and free housing. I have discovered, however, that there is no one out there who is willing to give me that. It's time to suck it up and solve the problem before it's too late.

Would be to allow these closet neo nazi's to do away with social security. What they intend to do is have "OPEN SEASON" on the rest of the population that doesn't know how to invest are have the high paying jobs that would keep them from the scurge of desperation. This would be one way of "getting rid" of a lot of undesirables by lock up are shot out. This in essence would eliminate alot of the African American & Hispanic Peoples. The rest would be "tazzed" & sent to rehab BUTT they want be looking like people of color! History is trying to repeat itself?

"...The program wasn't invented as a big government power grab, rather it was created in light of private sector failure." This statement may be true, however, now that the government has demonstrated the need. let the private sector manage, innovate, and bring efficiency to the system. Any policy that requires Govt. oversite is riddled with inefficiency and ultimately corrupt forces will mutilate.

whatever happen to this benefit? This is something that should be looked at. Are we getting it this year or what?

They are all thieves, ?how do we get rid of them all, It's like the rats in NYC,We need the pied piper with the green rat to lead them all to the North river!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Years ago they let people into the program. My Dad’s CPA told my parents how to pay into S/S a little money then get S/S when reaching age for benefit.

Such actions & government stealing S/S money is appalling. The social security government notes are burnable pieces of paper for heat and that is all it is worth.

Ponzi scheme

investment scam by which early investors are paid off from the contributions of later ones, in ref. to Charles Ponzi, who perpetrated such a scam in U.S., 1919-20.

That's precisely what Social Security is.

Have you missed the interviews with the President's little strike force of two men who are supposed to figure out how to save money? They say Social Security and Medicare have to be looked at.

More Obama street tricks. They will get rid of SS and try to blame it on the Republicans...then they will attack Palin and Bush.

This President is all talk and nothing more than Chicago political tricks.

So how is Obama's old neighborhood doing? It was profiled on Sixty Minutes because of the highest number of kids killing kids anywhere in the nation.

So what happened to all of the good that Obama did while in that neighborhood in Chicago with his and Bill Ayers use of an Annenberg Grant which they used to "radicalize school children"? They didn't use the money to teach kids. They used it to radicalize them.

How about all of that money Obama and Ayers got from the Wood foundation? Did that help their neighborhood?

How about the Federal Money Obama got, then gave to his friends to build a housing project that fell apart within six years. Sure Rezko and Valerie made money, but the people who moved into that housing suffered horribly. A new housing project that is dilapidated within six years has to be a record for cheap construction.

Cheap housing built 50 years ago still stands in most cities across America.

I guess in Obama world of Chicago politics, creating street gangs is considered an accomplishment. Nice job Pres.

There is so much that can be done to fix Social Security. There is a wealth of ideas that Conservatives unfortunately are afraid to discuss because of the Democratic Party’s fear tactics and the historical success of those fear tactics.

Social Security’s early retirement age should switch to 70 instead of 62 and full retirement at 75 instead of 65. This is very much common sense as the population is living and working longer.

The COLA (Cost of Living Adjustments) should be abolished. In 2010 and 2011 there will be no COLA anyway. The reason the COLA even went into effect in 1975 was that is was a then politically popular move on the part of the liberals then in power.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) should be either abolished or overhauled in a massive way. This has replaced the former program Aid to with Dependant Children (abolished in 1997) as the nation’s largest welfare program. It provides benefits to 7.8 million Americans. The majority of whom are under the age of 65 and claim to be on the program because of the loosely defined “Mental Disability.”Recipients of SSI receive a $674 a month check and go on to qualify for Food Stamps, Medicaid, and Section 8 Housing all at the tax payer expense. This overly broad liberal program should be changed.

These and numerous other suggestions should be discussed but are not.
