Pat Robertson Blames Haiti Earthquake on Pact with the Devil

There's nothing like unspeakable human tragedy to bring out the crazy. And few people better embody the crazy than religious comedian Pat Robertson. So it should not come as a surprise that he's incorporated the Haiti earthquake--which may have left a half-million dead--into his weird, classless act. Speaking on his television show today, historian Robertson spouted this gem

Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French--uhh, you know, Napoleon III or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the Devil. They said, "We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French." True story. And so the Devil said, "OK, it's a deal." And they kicked the French out—you know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other—desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It's cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etcetera. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have---and we need to pray for them—a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we're helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable.

Also unimaginable is coming up with this kind of hateful nonsense at a time like this. But this is from the fellow whose past hits included saying 9/11 was God's punishment for civil liberties.

Robertson told the truth and truth will make someone angry, for instance, the Devil. Bible is a book of Truth, the Devil hates it most. I guess, Mr.Schelsinger is perhaps an atheist in essence, plus a Religious ritual believer in appearance. unfortunately, he tried hard to be politically correct, but his expression was affected. Affection is not true stuff. If Mr. Schelsinger had a true faith like Robertson, he may follow the acts of Robertson,to do something real for the Haiti, instead of attacking others and pretending self righteousness with lip service.

I cannot believe Pat Robertson would really stand on his "argument" of deductive logic that because "the Haitians revolted and got themselves free" as Robertson said, they are being punished. If that premise and conclusion were, true then many PEOPLE including those who kidnapped, killed, beat and enslaved Africans should too be PUNISHED! Those Nazis who killed and tortured Jews should too be PUNISHED. Were those two groups of people supposed to remain in servitude and incomprehensible conditions in order to not meet destruction like this. Now, maybe the nation of Haiti was guilty of something else, but it was not of demanding their freedom as a nation and people. My pastor's sermon was about Robertson's comments. He gave this scripture in support of his argument against Robertson's asinine comments. He who is without sin, cast the first stone. I don't Robertson can throw a stone!

Luke 13 (The Message)

Unless You Turn to God

1-5About that time some people came up and told him about the Galileans Pilate had killed while they were at worship, mixing their blood with the blood of the sacrifices on the altar. Jesus responded, "Do you think those murdered Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans? Not at all. Unless you turn to God, you, too, will die. And those eighteen in Jerusalem the other day, the ones crushed and killed when the Tower of Siloam collapsed and fell on them, do you think they were worse citizens than all other Jerusalemites? Not at all. Unless you turn to God, you, too, will die."
