The prison system in Illinois is to overcrowded now.

November 2009, Illinois Times "Employee union blasts plans to sell Thomson prison"

"The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 31 says Illinois prisons are overcrowded already, and moving the estimated 200 prisoners housed at Thomson to other state prisons will only exacerbate the problem. Additionally, AFSCME says the Illinois Department of Corrections has renewed a push to close Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, a move that would require shipping an additional 1,500 inmates to other state prisons as well. KABUL – Militants killed eight Afghan policemen during an attack Monday on a checkpoint in northeast Afghanistan.

The militants attacked the members of the Aghan National Police before dawn in Baghlan province, provincial Gov. Mohammad Akbar Barakzai said.

"The policemen who were killed in the attack were on duty to provide security for the military convoys and local people in the main highway in Baghlan province," Barakzai said.

The deputy police chief in the province, Zalmai Mangal, said two militants were killed and another was injured in a gunfight that occurred after the policemen were killed. Policemen at another highway checkpoint nearby rushed to the scene, but arrived after the militants had escaped, he said.

Separately on Monday, NATO said an Afghan-international security force detained a weapons smuggler and a small group of other militants in Khost province in eastern Afghanistan. The suspect allegedly worked with the al-Qaida linked Haqqani network of militants.

The Haqqani network of Afghan fighters directs the battle against U.S. forces in eastern Afghanistan from the Waziristan tribal region in Pakistan. NATO said the suspect surrendered to the joint force at a compound in the Sabari district of Khost province.

In southern Afghanistan, NATO said an Afghan-international security force detained a Taliban weapons smuggler and a couple of other militants in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in either operation.

why we should just shoot them instead of free them or lock them up when they kill american and the allies left and right? of CA 3:28AM December 14, 2009

Having grwon up in a city now half its size in rural Illinois, these places need all they can get. To judge the promoters or detractors as cheap demagogues (give me a break, you are writing Illinois!), loses sight of Obama's and your fawning support-- let's kill off another 20,000 young men and women for Obama's "war of necessity," let's close down Gitmo and write a check for Oboma's "US Gitmo" with a political payoff to Axelrod-Emanuel-Blago-Daley "retirement fund" and pick a handful of inmates to produce a show trial at ground zero (movie rights to Marc Rich) to shame all of us who thought a bunch of Muslims blew up the Towers, Locherbie, Mumbai, etc.

We've heard the scoop on Illinois,

Land of Lincoln and all that bull.

Prairie poopers who just enjoy

Criminal types - the state is full

Of corruption and going broke.

The weather changes on a dime.

All the sports teams are just a joke.

Greed and lust tales all of the time.

Even the Olympics thumbed down

Mayor Daley and his pet cronies.

Chicago's just a jackass town

In a barnyard state full of sleaze.

We Gitmo South voters say no.

Illinos is a dump - ya know!
