William Shatner, Stephen Colbert Take on Sarah Palin's Farewell

People like Sarah Palin exist because the simple means of communicatiion is in the hands of the right twing establishment. Debate as seen and heard continually on the BBC radio and TV is non-existent. The reactionary forces rule the roost.Instead you have the likes of Bill O'relly and crazy Glen beck. Neo-fascists. The word freedom is bandied about until it loses its true meaning. Democracy only works with a well informed populace. Which unforunately America does not possess.Ill informed people aimlessly doing their own thing is not Freedom. How many people for example will read your sensible article? indeed! how many people have the ability to digest it.! Witness what happens in France (the most politically au fait country in europe) they try but have great difficulty pulling the wool over their eyes. But what a country. The best health service in europe, a good education system, they march not only with their feet but with their Voices they man the barricades! (Aux armes citoyens)

Underfunded schools will ensure that ignorance will continue. Is it deliberate policy?

You have a long way to go to get out of the Stagnation that pervades America. The forces of reaction are slowly stifling Obama's hopes of change. Tell him in one of your articles that the best form of defense is ATTACK. Thomas Jefferson said 'DISSENT IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF PATRIOISM' i'll drink to that.

What troubles me is this notion that we have to take sides in this country. You're either with us or against us, republican or democrat, red state or blue state. No one looks at an issue and struggles over the right decision to take anymore and yet our ability to reason is what makes us human. Lately we seem so willing to forfeit that gift of reason in exchange for the good feeling of beloning to a group. We all just take the position of our team.

When will the time come when we, as individuals look at a situation, assess it, find our own truth and then make our own decisions based on our own logic and reason?

All of these back and forth insults and banter just fuel anger and hatred. The issue at hand deals with Sarah Palin. You can love her or hate her, have an opinion, say what you think, just back it up with reason, because to base your opinion soley on party lines is in actuality to have no personal reason what so ever.

Palin will never be President because she would never make it out of a Republican primary. Once her own kind have reason to turn against her, it's lights out lightweight. But she has had the very useful effect of revealing the complete lunacy and ignorance of large numbers of Republicans. You do realize that she has NEVER attempted to present and defend her views in an open press conference or open political talk show? To paraphrase Seinfeld, you folks are voting for laundry. Well, dry-cleaning. Now we understand why you supported the guys who crashed the economy and went to war in the wrong country. You had no idea what they were actually talking about.

She has a better chance at winning the Pulitzer for Science.

Can you say "Stupid"? The only thing she is good at is continuously topping "The Stupidest things ever said on TV".

I feel sorry for her supporters, must be a hard life without a grade school education. With her 110 IQ and whooping 28% approval rating, the real question is....What the hell happened to our education system? If we have 28% of the US pop that are Palin Supports with almost brain dead activity, do ya think we need to spend more on our schools, you betch!

I live in TX, one of the most conservative and Republican states in the US (.

The guy who sits across from me at work is a lifelong Republican, who never voted for a Democrat in any election. HE voted for Obama because he was appalled by McCain's choice of Sarah Palin for VP.

To paraphrase what he said to me: Palin is dumber than a brick and I wouldn't vote for her if she was the only choice on the ballot.

Palin has nothing to offer but a collection of sound-bites that make absolutely no sense. She has no vision, no solutions, no plan. Anyone who rallies to support her is seriously deluded. She has NOTHING to offer. NOTHING. I am sure that John McCain is kicking himself every day for ever allowing her within 100 feet of himself. She was chosen by the RNC to attract all the Hillary followers that were disappointed by Obamas nomination for POTUS. She had no other qualification than being a Republican and a woman - the thing the RNC thought would be sufficient to attract away enough frustrated Hillary supporters to win the election.

Apparently, the majority of Americans saw right through that and recognized Sarah Palin or what she is. A mediocre demagogue with absolutely no substance, intelligence or ability to even put together a 20 minute speech. She's a joke, and those who still follow her are even bigger jokes. I would never have thought that the Republicans could find someone even dumber than Bush, but they somehow magically managed to do just that.

I hope she stays around for a long time to show the 60%-70% of Americans with a brain what the Republicans are willing to do to get elected. I wish she's run in 2012, it will be a 60%+ landslide for Obama.

Will all you Palin supporters stop with the idiotic idea that those who do not support her must be a liberal. If that is the only argument you can muster up, It's no wonder you support a woman who has never shown evidence of political savvy and is just plain dumb.

Regan, you seem to have some strong opinions that Palin should be president. Instead of going on a rant about liberals, back up your opinion as to why you think she would be a good candidate, what she has done and what her plans are to make America a better place. There is a theme here where those who support Palin cannot come up with a single logical reason as to why. Your only reason is that woooooo, liberals are bad people and that's why Palin is great. That makes about as much sense as she did when she was campaigning.

I support whoever I believe is the better candidate, right or left, it seems some are just supporting her due to party lines. That is the most ignorent and uneducated reason to support someone.

I would like to comment as a concerned Alaskan on Sarah Palin. She has brought unwanted opinions and stereotypes to many Alaskans. Yes, there are those who support her religiously and think that she will be the next President; however, there are some of us that are embarrassed by her actions and inability to speak. I find it odd that she has a degree in communications and one of her weaknesses is the ability to speak coherently with some organized thought. I have lived in the same area and state as her for the last 24 years, I can honestly say that that she has an air of arrogance about her, as do the people that support her.

John, I hate to tell you this but While you were saying that you won't fall into the same catagory of "some of Shatners movies and series or many others who have bombed", you just did. You may not have liked what was said, but you put yourself above those who critisize when all Shatner did was to repeat the speach with a poetic flare (which actually made more sense than than her speach). You were the only one making the critisisms here.

Oh, and by the way, there is this thing called the First Amendment. So you are saying that if Hollywood does not have anything good to say, they should "butt out and be silent". Can you please define "good " for me? Does that mean anyone who shares the same political views as you do? Everyone, yes, even actors, are entitled to voice their own political views which happen to be different depending on the person, and you have the right to disagree and you even have the right to critisize in generalities. Next time, think before you write and you might not come across as being hypocritical.

Why are those on the left so enthralled with sarah palin? they keep her in the news constantly by attacking her family, etc. It just gets curiouser and curiouser.
