Hey NRA, Why Doesn't Congress Have Guns?

It comes down to the fact that, our government does not have the right to infringe upon any of our civil rights. Maybe you dont care about gun laws (even though you should), if we allow our government to take away any of of rights now what is to stop them from taking away others later on. You think you have privacy you dont, the patriot act took care of that. what is next no search warrants needed, no fair trials, no free speech. It has to stop now and the only way that is going to happen is if the people step up and stop it from happening. The problem is that Americans are lazy and just dont care anymore so long as they are comfortable right now. Stand up for what you believe in and stand up for your rights as given to you by our forefathers so long ago.

I wouldn't expect you to pay much attention to me. Your blinders only allow you to see straight ahead. I'm over here in the region known as common sense - out of your field of vision. Once again, you dance the little sidestep. Where are these vague studies you claim to "refer" to? I don't see any mentioned. You also sidestepped the issue about comparing our statistics to those of other civilized countries. Comparing carry vs non-carry, and the effect of these laws just invites speculation, supposition and downright manipulation. The real exercise should be comparing our violent crime rates and murder rates against countries that have restrictive gun laws and acknowledge the stark difference.

I haven't heard from you in a long time - but then I don't pay much attention to you...

You may google the studies I referred to - They aren't hidden, or you may simply note that the number of "Right To Carry States" is increasing - not decreasing. I suspect that if shootouts were common place in these states the populations would grow weary of the blood bath and change their laws - But perhaps everyone just enjoys that whole "Wild West" atmosphere.

One other note - Crimes that "don't happen" (are deterred) by armed civilians are not easily quantified.

Keep stamping your feet - might stimulate those ol' braincells - or not.

Why Doesn't Congress Have Guns

Some of congress do have guns, and the rest that do not have guns, would shoot there foot off. If congress shoot like they run the government, they would not be able to find the safety.

does anyone care for their rights as citizens anymore? why do the people of this country continuously surrender their civil liberties to the police state that we are becoming? we need fewer lawmakers and more conscious citizens. we are becoming conscious-less consumers, willing to surrender our rights as set forth by the founders of this nation so that our government can make the decisions for us while we grow fatter and more ignorant. im all about peace, love and happiness. but firearms dont kill people. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. if you disarm the law abiding citizen then they are defenseless against the firearm wielding criminals. law enforcement will not always be there to save you and based on the repetitiveness of history could perhaps one day end up being the enemy. learn to defend yourselves. knowledge is power people. the most significant cause of fear when it comes to firearms is a general lack of knowledge. we should be educating people in the PROPER application of force and use of firearms instead of attempting to strike down one of the rights this country was founded on. WE WON AND MAINTAINED OUR INDEPENDENCE THROUGH FORCE OF ARMS! wtf is this country coming too? open your eyes people, don't be afraid to question in search of the truth. we still value the truth dont we?

Could someone write an article expounding the scientific evidence correlating gun violence and concealed pistol permits? Or gun ownership? Better correlation, and establish causation. In the Wild West-looney states? I have yet to see convincing data that suggests that. Crime is up all over the country, and probably not because of people who carry legally; think economic downturn.

these days---until they shoot someone and land themselves in prison for murder or manslaughter. Then they'll wish they had never heard of the NRA.

Here in New Mexico, in the town of Belen, we have a case RIGHT NOW of an ex-marine who went to the store a couple of weeks ago, saw what he thought was a burglary in process somewhere else along the way, followed the alleged burglars in a car, got into a confrontation with them, shot one dead, and is now charged with murder. Both he and his devastated wife are going to be wondering for a long time why on earth he was carrying a gun in his car just to go to a store.

Your thinking represents another reason I dropped my subscription to USNWR magazine. By the way, thanks to you and your ilk, the membership of the NRA is booming. Keep up the good work.

Gun deaths per 100,000 population are up in 'shall issue' states. Only two states do not allow concealed carry, Wisconsin and Illinois and gun deaths per 100,000 are far lower than in the wild west-looney states.

NRA will twist and alter facts to suggest that the more people carry, the safer we are. But the leadership of the NRA is about as stable as folks who foam at the mouth and chew on carpets.

Statistics I have seen indicate that violent crime has gradually been declining in the U.S. since 1991, independent of any correlation with gun ownership. You have fallen into the fallacious logical trap of Post Hoc, Ergo Procter Hoc - just because something follows another thing does not mean it was caused by that thing. "Hey, I have been stomping my feet for 7 days in a row, and no tigers have invaded my yard. It MUST be the stomping". Unlike you, I will not stoop to any grade-school generalizations, name-calling and taunting as you have with the author, but it is laughable that you think you offer a credible opposition to his article by offering only your skewed speculation and supposition instead of facts backed by statistics. Take a look at violent crime statistics comparing the U.S. to other civilized countries with restrictive gun laws. Our numbers are huge in comparison to UK, Sweden, etc. Looking at our numbers and realizing what they could be, I would say that the "blood bath" has happened, and will continue.
