Congrats Robert!

You must be so extremely proud. I know I am, for you.

Can't wait to meet him.

All my best.

As the son of an historian, you will be interested in my new book, Make Room for Daddy: From the Waiting Room to the Delivery Room (Univ North Carolina Press) which chronicles dads moving from the waiting room in the 1940s and 1950s into the labor room in the 1960s, and finally into delivery rooms and birthing rooms in the 1970s and 1980s. C-sections kept men out longer, but many got into the OR for that too. Thanks, Judith Walzer Leavitt

Appreciating your father's good taste for bourbon, I have just drank one in honor of this newest generation of fine writers. Happy Father's Day!

I note you refer to your "pre-born" son as a "baby" rather than a "fetus". Perhaps you have come to realize that a living human is in the womb, and that it is not the "wanting" of life that signifies its humanity, but rather the simple fact of its existence.

Happy Father's Day.

Great article, Rob. To me this was a bit of a tear jerker--so glad that Fran and Emmet are well! Happy Father's Day!
