I believe it is wrong to send someone to jail for making dumb choices that influence stricktly themselves and do no harm to others, however I do believe that legalization of marijuana can NOT be justified by pointing out there are legal drugs that are made available to society that are just as harmful. People in favor of legalization of marijuana are very quick to point out how unhealthy tobacco and alcohol are but there are a few things i just can not seem to figure out. Why distribute another harmful drug into society? What good is to come from legilization of marijuana? If this action is not for the greater good, why fight for it? We all know the pain that is often associated with alcohol and tobacco, such as losses of loved ones to disease and drunk driving, shouldn't people be working to do away with all these things? The government should not have to restrict people from the abuse of drugs, people should be responsible enough to restrict themselves from abusing these drugs.

I think that the government should definatly legalize marijuana, I am really not a pro-Obama person. I don't hate the guy but this is one thing that i agree with, except go all the way and make it legal. People whine about weed causing lung cancer but there is no evidence it actually leads to that. If you want lung cancer, smoke cigarettes. I mean come on. Tobacco causes millions to die each year, and it's legal. Also alcohol. Legal, yet it causes fights, car crashes and poisoning... Hmmm, I really don't understand the government's theory. I say, make it legal, but like smoking cigarettes, be 18 to purchase and decriminalize it for younger people. Also like alcohol, do jail time if you drive stoned. It would still need rules but for God's sake don't make it illegal when dangerous things are perfectly legal. Seriously.

its perfectly legal to buy beer and get drunk which leads to fights anger deaths etc. marijuana on the other hand which is illegal of course causes people to relax be happy laugh and have fun. no deaths no figjts no rowdiness just laid back people not harmoing anyone. it doesnt make any since to me that alcohol is legal and weed isnt. i think our government is blind and dumb

It absolutely shocks me that marijuana is way less harmful than tobacco or alcohol, yet, it's the one that's seen as "the devil's harvest". If people are worried about getting lung cancer from it, their are edible forms of it. It makes people happy, it makes people more relaxed, and helps with anxiety incredibly. Also, look at all of the contributions that pot smokers have made to the creative world with music and art that never would have been made otherwise. Marijuana opens minds and allows people to perceive the world in such a way that allows creativity to be tapped in individuals that previously didn't think they had any talent. Honestly, it's only a matter of time. All of the people that grew up in the Reefer Madness era are getting older and will die off soon. Most people age 21 and younger agree that marijuana should be decriminalized and heavily regulated and taxed. It's only a matter of time before these people go to college and eventually take positions of power in our government. Taxing marijuana could also help save our economy. It's the #1 crop in California and brings in billions every year, but does any of that money go to the state? Nope. Why is that? Because it's illegal. Make it legal and the state would get all of that money and there's that billion dollar education budget you were looking for, Arnold.

short sighted and small minds-also caused the alcohol wars of the 20's and 30's and made millionaires of well known criminals like al capone.the feds finally realized they could regulate and tax alcohol making money instead of letting the hoods get rich.it would seem that the bleeding hearts have forgotton this lesson and history will continue to repeat itself wasting valuable time and and man-power to fight a loosing war.as long as cannabis is illeagal the criminals will continue to reap the rewards and the violence over the profit will continue.hence degrading society more as police resorces are tapped out trying to stem the tide.also for you bible toteing naysayers-please read genesis again.God has given all plants herbs and beasts of the field to man to use for his consumption.what gives a government the right to override Gods gift to man?-thoughts from the hills.

Politicians... please (pretty please) pull your heads out of the sand and see this issue for what it really is. A failure. Why continue something that is literally causing deaths when the plant itself hasn't killed anybody???
