ABC's GCB TV Show and the Media's Culture Wars Hypocrisy

I grew up in Dallas in an upper middle class family and I think the show is spot on. The types of people portrayed exist in great numbers in that city. They certainly gave me huge distaste for their brand of Christianity. I now live in Southern California and my friends here thought I was exaggerating about life in Dallas until they watched 'GCB' and recognized things I had talked about.

I find it offensive that anyone would try and dictate what is put on the air. If a show is not good, does not have an audience, then it will be pulled. It happens every new tv season. For any group to try and pressure a network to pull a show to suit them is ridiculous. Simply do not watch the show if you find it offensive. As far as GCB is concerned, if you live in the Bible belt and go to a church with lots of money and social standing, the behavior shown does go on, and the show is just putting it under the spotlight for the hypocrisy it is. The only thing demeaning is having someone think the public is not smart enough to know the difference between a satirical, over exaggerated tv show and reality and that a watchdog is needed to tell anyone what is worth watching and what isn't.

ABC is being insensitive towards the Christian community by creating a show dedicated to the mischaracterization, disrespect, and and degradation of it's women. ABC's hateful portrayal of Christian women is extremely offensive. Maybe ABC should have a show called "American Christian", much like TLC's "American Muslim", that depicts the difficulties for devout Christians trying to live in a hostile, misunderstanding culture.

If Rush had called Sandra Fluke a b---ch, I guess his everyone would have been ok with that. Oops, forgot about the double standard for a moment.

I've been a born-again Christian for 30 years, and I don't know any true believers like those portrayed here.

Plot is about time that self serving high and mighty Christians get lampooned. Christians hold themselves up so high and lambast so any people who have been hurt, scorned and abused by their "Christian love"

I didn't care about the title or the message- everyone will take it differently. I wanted a show that made me laugh, with good actors and take my mind away from the drama that is "life." I loved the cast, love Kristin C. and the show has earned a loyal viewer in me. You can't satisfy everyone and their opinions. Why try? If you don't like the show- don't watch it.

My experience, having grown up in Dallas, is that there are many women who could easily step into the roles on GCB. Most of them, though, are found in North Dallas, Plano (my hometown) and other spots near them, not Highland Park. It is a big reason why I left that place.

That being said, I was quite disgusted with their treatment on this show. I find little difference between their portrayal than the heinous statements by Limbaugh. It is callous and stereotypical. And, with the great divide in this country, we just don't need this right now.

There are hypocrites everywhere in this country and around the world. Those who make a policy of it disgust me, whether on the left or right, Christian, Muslim, Jew or Atheist. We should not be attacking others because of their beliefs and opinions.

I do not follow any religion but, instead, choose to follow those who live(d) what they preach as in Ghandi, Jesus and the Dalai Lama. I am a left-leaning independent. I am tired of the lack of respect and tolerance we show towards each other, not only in this country, but towards peoples of other cultures and faiths.

There are shows that have broken from the mean-spirited comedies of the last couple of decades. Portlandia and Modern Family are examples of quality shows that respect and celebrate the family of man, warts and all.

Who are the sponsors for GCB so I can write and complain, and who do I complain to ABC about this show? This is definitely discrimination against Christians and should be taken off the air.

It is no ones business if i like GCB!! i love the show, which shows human nature. i am an U.U. we are liberals and do not follow the christian beliefs.

so back off behar and mind your own business and butt out!!!!!!!

GCB needs to be taken off the air - very offensive to Christians. I agree if it had been any other religion it would have never made it in the first place. Also a bad reflection of my state and Dallas. Not at all Dallas. Not gona watch any more episodes.
