The media is trying to spin Obama's out of control power hunger while smearing Republicans by suggesting Obama is more like Nixon than Carter (associating with someone who quit over the disaster Snake Dancing Peanut Picker who was ONE TERMED.)

I say the guy was MADE to come from Chicago

What else could we expect from a smug, egocentric, Progressive who writes books about himself - even before he ever did anything?

R.L. Schaefer of CA 3:37PM May 27, 2011

The Founding Fathers, the framers of the Constitution, wanted to form a government that did not allow one person to have too much authority or control. While under the rule of the British king they learned that this could be a bad system. Yet government under the Articles of Confederation taught them that there was a need for a strong centralized government.

With this in mind the framers wrote the Constitution to provide for a separation of powers, or three separate branches of government. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. This is done through checks and balances. A branch may use its powers to check the powers of the other two in order to maintain a balance of power among the three branches of government.

Were we not taught this in school? Three seprate but equal branches of government that have "checks and balance" on each other. Then add the responsibility of a "Free Press"

“The Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have [to] bare the secrets of government and inform the people.”

Hugo Black

My how things have been fundamentally transformed?

This country was establish so man could rule themselves and not be controlled by a King/Queen, or any single person and that was the purpose of the three equal branches of government with the oversight of the press.

I shall bow to no one other than God!

Both Barack Obama and George W. Bush are similar in that they supported the Patriot Act. Both presidents are similar in that Bush started wars in Afghanistan and Iraq while Obama involved American military forces in Libya along with the Brits and French.

Laws passed by Congress routinely grant powers to executive-branch agencies and independent regulatory agencies to issue regulations.

"no president, regardless of party, should have the power to rule by fiat!"

For once I agree with you.

Unfortunately, that is pretty much what Obama is trying to do, in every area from the environment, to gun control.

I'd suggest that other posters here spend some time looking up all of the examples of this behavior by Obama before they post anything further against Roff's writing of this column - what you will find will make your head spin.

Obamacare was democrats going against the polls. CBO says will add debt, and voters in groves threw democrats out of office Nov. 2, 2011. barry campaigned against Patriot Act, will he now sign since death of bin dead and for election coming. Republican plan if different than obamacare.

You all had full control for some time but called us party of NO. Voters voted against you. You talk bad about Arnold, but silent about Edward recent problems. Rush to help Democrat States with flooding, but slow boat to China in Republican wildfire of Texas.

News Network nearly all back barry, but Media Matters watches every move Fox makes. barry’

s legions are trying to find dirt on Gov. of NJ in cases he runs as they did to Sarah.

The out & out lies on Ryan's plan and fake tea party candidates.

I say your party is "biggest threat to America in its entire history". Lawyer barry, Acorn, and Bill Clint are main reasons for our recession. Bush's attempts of new regulations to stop went nowhere with democrats.

You are upsets a few articles are geared for us. Write USA and demand they stop. Tell them to take down “Wit and wisdom from all sides of the political spectrum” from there site or else you will leave. In advance I say good bye to you.

EPA is considering shutting down some of Texas from oil production for a soon to be placed on endangered species list lizard that they have not seen there. At least in CA they saw the endangered little fish when they closed down vegetable heartland of America.

Soon liberals will be endangered, at 20% and falling...

panskeptic you nicely summed up the republican mind set and agenda.

bruce b of NV 2:51AM May 27, 2011

You are correct. My mistake... Sorry...

The reality is this: Obama's opponents have engaged in an unprecedented barrage of obstructionism. Before Obama took office they vowed to block him at every possible turn as disrespectfully as possible, and the evidence is clear that they've never stopped trying.

The apex of this braindead churlishness happened when the Republicans took a mandate they themselves had promoted for individuals to purchase health insurance (we've got the videos - even James DeMint endorsed it), then suddenly reversed themselves when Obama decided he liked it and attempted to implement it. The Right zanily slandered Obamacare beyond all recognition, even though the major underlying principle had been theirs.

Obama has tried very hard to be a post-partisan president, infuriating Democrats who want him to kick some Republican a** instead of caving in repeatedly to the psychotic fantasies of the bellicose Right.

Our Mr. Roff takes rubbishy talking points from Republican operatives and dutifully publishes them as his own. His partisan hackery is inaccurate, illogical and dreary. Apparently Roff couldn't find reality with both hands, a map, a seeing eye dog, and a GPS device.
