Congratulations to this magazine for, at last, publishing a column/opinion by a conservative. I was beginning to think I'd never see the "right" side of things in here.

So is artic ice disappearing or not ? During Medieval times was earth hotter ? I worked in health department when news came out of hole in ozone. I went to office next day and announced the news. Air quality man gave a laugh. I asked why ? He said they just put up a new satalite. Old one didn’t measure “0”. Hole could have existed since the beginning of time. Man makes ozone. I don’t hear about holes anymore.

Oh I’m glad they no longer use water mining technics. Improvements I’m for. But you knuckle heads go way too far. EPA going to each building demanding satisfaction. America paying into a fund to support China and others. Surcharge on energy used. Luckily VP Gore didn’t get his way. Poor Al, his award winning movies had to carry a disclaimer in England.

You talk of oil spills. barry caused a big one and refused foreign help to clean up. If world stopped all sea oil drilling, We would have oil leaks naturally. Mother nature clean up:

“Natural oil leaks equal to 8–80 Exxon Valdez spills”

Volcanoes:

“Volcano's Emit Far More CO2 Than Man”

“termite pollute more than man”

Should we cut our pollution ? Sure. But not like whacko insulting environmentalist Ann wants...

Your comment reminds me of an exchange a neighbor and I had a few years ago. She was telling me about the Soap Operas she watches on television when she is home during the day. She asked me what I watched on television when I was home for the day. I told her that I watched the U.S. Senate on C-Span. She asked me why I could possibly be interested in such a "heavy" topic. I said that I liked to read history books, and write historical books for children, so I also liked to watch history actually being made in the Senate--right before my eyes--our own American history! Her reply was: Gee, get a life!

R.L. Schaefer of CA, you remind me of that neighbor. I am glad there are people whose lives DO center around saving this planet, and trying so hard to save the United States of America from choking and killing pollution--from corporate industries' toxic chemicals, mountain-top mining, oil spills, motor and motor-vehicle emissions, fertilizers, decomposition of a variety of substances, logging, other types of mining, e-coli, total disruption and eventual loss of important chains of life in our ecosystem.

I am glad there are people who "keep track" of historical events that damage our food chains, our plant life, animal life, and the lives of our descendants. I am placing an online article here that uses primary documents to record our pollution "history" in the past years:

http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/how-dick-cheney-and-tom-delay-caused-gulf-o

I wish all of these "politicians" in this article, and defended by many in the population, had led a "good" life. If those people want to go down from pollutants and self-serving politicians, why do those of us who actually CARE about the U.S. have to go down with them?

R.L. Schaefer of CA:

I hope you are young. In this way, you will live long enough to see the United States of America become one of the major pollution-filled countries in the World. Right now, you malign environmentalists. What do you think will happen without interest and concern for the environment in this country? How about discussing China, for instance?

By the way, thus far, China does NOT have environmental laws in their country (although, even now, they are becoming highly concerned). Gosh, just when the U.S. is growing LESS concerned about THEIR environment. Hmm...

Respiratory Diseases Caused by Industry:

Effects of Water Pollution in a Society:

http://www.umich.edu/~gs265/society/waterpollution.htm

The following website tells what happens in the future when citizens think environmental issues are "trivial."

China's Air and Water Pollution

http://www.wri.org/publication/content/7833

Note this sentence from the above Website: "The government (of China) has begun the radical act of publishing information on air pollution in local newspapers, in part to galvanize public support for closing down inefficient and polluting industries."

In a suppressive society such as China, China, eventually, WILL NOT tolerate pollution--if China's Leaders decide pollution will no longer be tolerated. China has "solutions" for disobeying government law. NO ONE in China will be writing a comment on a blog, (and will live to tell about it: "concern for the environment is trivial."

bruce b of NV:

I sure hope you are a Republican. Republicans are COUNTING on you to regard environmental issues as a "shameful and trivial matter." Improving the environment costs far more to restore than to just continue pollution. Fining those who are guilty of pollution was money that was SUPPOSED to pay to restore the environment. Who do you suppose did not "push" for fining corporations?

Corporate emissions pollute; corporations DO NOT want to pay pollution fines; it is in the interest of corporations, in order to reap continuously high profits, that corporations NOT be forced to pay pollution fines. So far, NOT paying the fines has worked out splendidly. You can see, therefore, how trivial environmental quality for you , your children, and your grandchildren is to corporations.

I sincerely hope you are a very wealthy person, so when the Republicans get rid of the EPA, cap and trade, etc., you will have adequate money to move to those unpolluted islands in the Pacific, already set aside for those of you who can no longer tolerate dangerous pollution in the U.S., but have the money to move elsewhere. Really, a truly, Right-Sighted American is NOT concerned about the future of the environment for their children and grandchildren--let pollution be their descendants problem.... Let the corporations make major profits "while the sun still shines in America."

Wait....This article was about the triviality of Democrats who cannot even begin to recognize that jobs and NO jobs and saving the environment have no link to one another! If it weren't for the name of the author, methinks this author was possibly writing an exercise in sarcasm. Since it is Peter Roff, I would guess he has convinced his Republican readers, yet again, that he holds truth in his hands. Shame on you, Peter. Try playing fair. Really, try it! It feels better.

Ann Keenan of MI 8:57PM March 09, 2011

This is not a trivial issue! At least your children and grandchildren will not call it trivial. Should any group of people decide to create an environmentally-friendly situation within their workplace, it serves as an example to others. This example of environmentally-conscious citizens can spread nation-wide, even world-wide. But that example MUST start somewhere. You call it a "SCAM?" Please cite those primary documents that prove your "talking points"?:

1. "Harry Reid is more concerned about the Cowboy Poetry museum than the budget."

2. "Obama's in bed with the public employee unions who are Scamming the Taxpayers."

3. "Gas prices were $1.85/gal. when Obama came into office; now its over $3.00/gal."

"Democrats do NOT solve problems, they have no interest at all in solving problems."

In addition, as you are confident of the Democrat information you provided, please provide the primary documents that prove that, on the contrary, Republicans ARE interested in the future of the USA, and are NOT seeking to further their agenda to get more votes. By the way, have you wondered when the majority of jobs left this country and went overseas to China and India, and, etc....?

Have you wondered why so many American Corporations went overseas? Have you taken a poll of those American corporations who chose to go overseas because they could make a bigger profit by paying far less wages to Chinese and other Southeast Asian countries? While you are providing this info, are those heads of offshore American corporations headed by Democrats? I eagerly await your proof.

By the way, you ARE aware, aren't you that American Corporations are also American citizens. Yes. A corporation can now vote for the best candidate that money can buy. If a corporation wishes to offer large amounts of money to a candidate, does that corporation want the candidate to side with the corporation or with the opposing political party? If you were offered 30 million per year to do the bidding of the head of a corporation, what would YOU do?

Ann Keenan of MI 8:23PM March 09, 2011

i have to agree with all the other work that needs to be done that a group of house members would waste their time on such a trivial matter is shameful.

bruce b of NV 10:53AM March 09, 2011

Yeah, so does just about everything on planet Earth. Enviros have made themselves a religion - when what they needed was a life.

R.L. Schaefer of CA 10:29AM March 09, 2011

The "energy" initiative by Democrats is a huge SCAM. Look at all the failed programs in California; Evergreen Co. in Pa. that took government money and then moved to China, etc. There are many more that we don't even hear about.

The Democrats are proving to be manipulators and scammers, using our taxdollars to get votes.

Harry Reid is more concerned about the Cowboy Poetry museum than the budget.

Obama's in bed with the public employee unions who are Scamming the Taxpayers.

Gas prices were $1.85/gal. when Obama came into office; now its over $3.00/gal.

Democrats do NOT solve problems, they have no interest at all in solving problems.

Their entire motivation is in getting more votes.
