Peter Roff, you've missed the point completely or your just ignorant of the details of Scott Walker's horrendous budget repair bill. Not only would the bill strip collective bargaining rights for public sector workers (teachers, nurses, mental health workers, university workers, etc....; jobs corporations can't outsource to foreign countries!!!) it would allow Governor Walker to sell public utilities to private corporations like Koch Industries, who happened to set up a lobbying office one block from the Wisconsin capitol building at the same time Walker became governor!

Haven't you heard the phone call between Walker and "David Koch"??? I encourage your readers to go and listen to it. Youtube. This is an issue about protecting Americans and their way of life. Be more patriotic!

Had one thing in common - they both supported the union movement. The New Deal passed sweeping reforms for labor that gave us 50 years of a strong middle class......Eisenhower was a true conservative centrist from Kansas. Pragmatic, and truly a person who connected with average Americans. He understood the connection between unions and a strong middle class.

Roff - your comments are as usual biased and not factual.... Typical to try to use the names of famous people to justify a position that denies rights to average folks.... The unions made concessions. The budget was balanced. The Governor was not satisfied - as his agenda was all about eliminating collective bargaining - not really about the budget.

So please be honest. Stop all the rhetoric about fiscal responsibility and let's hear more about the now famous conversation with the Governor's big contributor - Mr Koch (oops - I mean the guy pretending to be Koch)

The circumstances surrounding the legislative fight also seem to suggest that Walker is taking this fights as more of a personal fight as opposed to a fight over ideology. Walker continues to refuse to negotiate on the bill despite dramatic concessions from the public employees’ unions in the states. The unions have agreed to financial aspects of Walker’s budget repair bill. The union employees have agreed to pay more towards their health care benefits and pensions, but maintain that they have a right to collectively bargain for pay raises and benefits in the future. The concession of the unions would solve Wisconsin’s most immediate budget problem, but Walker still refuses to accept their compromise. Walker insists that the collective bargaining provisions of the bill remain in place, even if it means the budget does not get balanced and public workers started getting laid off as a result. With the unions’ concessions, the “budget justification” for Walker’s bill has now completely disappeared. The only real justification left for Walker’s stance is his own need to be seen as not backing down to the unions.
