GOP Should Run on the Economy, Not the Ground Zero Mosque

The GOP obstructed the stimulus package and the health care reform proposing no alternative to these programs. They also obstructed the $34 billion needed for unemployment benefits extension to needy families while also supporting extending tax cuts for the rich that would cost a lot more with no guarantee of creating jobs. The unemployment benefit extension is far more effective at stimulating the economy than more tax cuts for the rich. This is obvious to all but the GOP.

The GOP doesn't deny that they are deliberately obstructing Obama's agenda, they proudly admit it. Here is a quote from Mitch McConnell;

“I am amused with their comments about obstructionism,” McConnell said to the Times. “I wish we had been able to obstruct more. They were able to get the health care bill through. They were able to get the stimulus through. They were able to get the financial reform through. These were all major pieces of legislation, and if I would have had enough votes to stop them, I would have.”

Of course, the GOP doesn't know what it is for, only what it is against. Right now it is against the American people. The GOP only wants to defend corporate America's profits which, by the way have increased by 35% since bottoming out in the second quarter of 2009 from just under $1.2 trillion to over $1.6 trillion. Business isn't investing because of low employment and effective demand levels, not because of deficits or fears of taxes. The GOP/tea bagger thugs are doing their very best to sabotage the economy by spreading lies about taxes allegedly increasing for everyone after the November elections.

You think the Grand Old Party really has a stellar track record on economic issues? I think not. But, the Dems have certainly proved the old adage, "From the frying pan into the fire."

So what are we left with? Sadly, changeless hopelessness.
