GOP Should Run on the Economy, Not the Ground Zero Mosque

The budget surpluses were of no real use. They only worked because the private sector was willing to go so deeply into debt. As it turned out it would have been much better for the economy if the government had gone into debt instead to stimulate the economy. Overleveraging of the private sector led to the panic and collapse of 2008. So much for the efficacy of federal budget surpluses.

How rare it is for obama’s Congress to pay for new bills.

Do explain how “Recession Republicans created” is true.

“If tax cuts created jobs, how come the country lost 26 million jobs under the Bush Administration. ”

Housing collapse thanks to Clinton ruined economy.

“racist fearmongering”.

How ?

“Or trying to persuade their lemmings that the President isn't an American. ”

It is usually a liberal bringing that up.

“Republicans are not fiscal conservatives and don't have any economic solutions but the same old three card monty con game they were selling for the past decade.”

Last time the budget was balanced Newt and the boys forced it down Clinton’s throat by controling spending. It took closing down government twice to get Bill to sign. Bill never balanced budget until forced to.

Since McConnell decided that tax cuts for the Rich don't need to be paid for, the GOP has nothing to offer on helping the country out of this Recession Republicans created. If tax cuts created jobs, how come the country lost 26 million jobs under the Bush Administration.

Without anything to offer on the economy the GOP falls back on racist fearmongering about a community center in a Muslim neighborhood. Or trying to persuade their lemmings that the President isn't an American.

Bottomline: Republicans are not fiscal conservatives and don't have any economic solutions but the same old three card monty con game they were selling for the past decade.

Alaska and North Dakota have not , Washington D.C. ( the goverment ) has hired 27,000 new people . The last 26 billion dollars spent ( when they came back from vacation ) to save teachers jobs and other public employee jobs , is not going towards keeping them working or rehiring them , slush fund and pension bailouts , more of our tax dollars going down a rat hole while we try to save for our retirements .

Re-check you previous comment. You gave no link in that comment. You still give no link.

Is why in my previous comment I wrote:

“6. I don’t comment on data without link. Is meaningless mumbo jumbo without source.”.

I provided link for GOP health care and is specific in way to do. Anyone can go to my previous comment and see it. Wait, here it is:

http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare

Here s the summary from it when you said GOP had no plan.

• Lowering health care premiums. H.R. 5424 will lower health care premiums by up to 20% compared to the Democrats’ health law for families and small businesses, addressing Americans’ number-one priority for health care reform.

“• Establishing Universal Access Programs to guarantee access to affordable health care for those with pre-existing conditions. H.R. 5424 creates Universal Access Programs that fully fund and reform high-risk pools and reinsurance programs to guarantee that all Americans, regardless of pre-existing conditions or past illnesses, have access to affordable care – while lowering costs for all Americans.

• Ending junk lawsuits. H.R. 5424 would help end costly junk lawsuits and curb defensive medicine by enacting medical liability reforms modeled after successful state laws that reduce unnecessary spending and lower health insurance premiums.

• Preventing insurers from unjustly cancelling a policy. H.R. 5424 prohibits an insurer from cancelling a policy because an enrollee made simple errors on an insurance application forms

• Allowing dependents to remain on their parents’ policies. H.R. 5424 encourages coverage of young adults on their parents’ insurance through age 25.

• Encouraging Small Business Health Plans. H.R. 5424 gives small businesses the power to pool together and offer health insurance at lower prices, just as corporations and labor unions do.

• Encouraging innovative state programs. H.R. 5424 rewards innovation by providing incentive payments to states that reduce premiums and the number those who are of uninsured, without expanding government entitlement programs or creating new ones.

• Allowing Americans to buy insurance across state lines. H.R. 5424 increases insurance competition and lowers premiums by allowing Americans to shop for coverage from coast to coast regardless of the state they live in.

• Promoting healthier lifestyles. H.R. 5424 promotes prevention and wellness by giving employers greater flexibility to financially reward employees who adopt and maintain healthier lifestyles.

• Enhancing Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). H.R. 5424 creates new incentives to save for future health needs and allows qualified participants to use HSAs to pay health insurance premiums. “

This is the summary Steve.. Easy read comparison to obamacare

Do you have the link of the independant study who claims, "...the fiscal stimulus has saved or created some 3 million jobs to date."?

...or is this another, "this is what I think it is", claim from you??

Bill, the so called GOP health care plan, other than being a load of vague rhetoric about "government takeover of health care" which is a lie to begin with, was the same old rehashed nonsense about tort reform (which would have NO impact on health care costs. According to the CBO caps on law suits would reduce premium increases by an average of less than 2% if at all), allowing the purchase of insurance across state lines which is impossible since each state independently regulates the insurance industry within its borders. This would effectively kill insurance regulation since it would create a "race to the bottom" to deregulate in order to keep insurance companies in each state. It's just more GOP corporate deregulation, and tax breaks to buy health insurance which is meaningless since most people's tax breaks wouldn't amount to nearly enough to purchase any health insurance. In addition, this would by no means control costs.

In other word, the GOP "plan" is the usual rehashed nonsense, much of which has nothing to do with health care and more to do with deregulation and tax cuts which they always support anyhow. They don't address the issue of affordable care for everyone at all and merely rehash the old propaganda about "socialized medicine" which the Obama plan is not. Health care reform with a robust public option was wildly popular according to polls. Even the pro-GOP Rasmussen Poll famously published a survey proving that Obamacare lost its majority support because the public option was dropped due to GOP opposition. The GOP mangling of the final bill was what was unpopular but of course this was their goal. The GOP acting in support of corporate, not popular interests. This is consistent with their past patterns.

The Reuters link described a slew of tax cuts which for the poor would be too small to stimulate the economy and would end up being less than the Making Work Pay Tax credits that Obama enacted. Obama gave over $300 billion in tax cuts to 95% of the people anyhow. The other tax cuts for business, such as allowing large companies to write off current losses against previous tax years for up to five years allowing them to "carry back" losses for more than the current two years that the law allows, would only be a big tax giveaway to large corporations which would not produce jobs anyhow. Corporate profits have increased markedly since the beginning of the output recovery in the second quarter of 2009; despite generous tax breaks that they already enjoy from the Bush years that Obama has left in place, they have still ceased to invest in job creating activities. AMT relief would only result in federal revenue losses and no job creating investment. The problem is that there needs to be job creating investment to create income and effective demand for goods and services in the economy before investment can begin. Right wingers never acknowledge this point. Still the fiscal stimulus has saved or created some 3 million jobs to date.

What is the nation passionate about? That is what they should run on. Private sector job creation. Creating a business environment that ENCOURAGES/PROMOTES/REWARDS start-up businesses and successful businesses and the people that take the risks to do so. Want high-payed teachers, firemen, and policemen? I do! Then we have to have a well-paid, thriving and growing private sector.

If greed in the private sector is a sin, well then so is envy from the libs who want to redistribute others wealth.

How about running on personal responsibility for all, from the highest paid executive to the lowest paid minimum-wage earner? (A learned virtue, something FAMILY is responsible for, not something politicians get to legislate)

How about running on realistic affordable health-care that rewards doctors for efficency and satisfied patients? And removing hindrances that get in the way of that -- ridiculously high malpractice insurance, stifling gov't. regulations, and complex, interfering insurance companies that communicate with our doctors more than we do.

Last, but not least, run on reining this out of control federal gov't in, from now on promising to pass NO LEGISLATION that does not reduce its power and return power back to the people.

GOP- here's a tip - we don't want a slower version of progressivism - we want freedom - we want equal opportunity - we want the control of our lives IN OUR HANDS, NOT A BUNCH OF DO-GOODER POLITICIANS!!!! Amen!

Donna of TX 12:03AM August 22, 2010

as Roff alleges, it is only because they have not found a way to reinstate the very high tax rates of the old days on corporations and super-high-paid individuals (ie., the CEOs). When corporations and their bosses get big after-tax windfalls for cutting jobs, can you guess what they do? And then they sit on the highest corporate cash balances in history while telling you they cannot afford you and your neighbor on the payroll anymore. When you and your neighbor (via a truly liberal government) tax them at about 80% for this behavior and invite them to pay far less tax by hiring people and deducting the wages/benefits, you'll see lots and lots of new jobs------but not until you get that done. So, yeah, the election is about jobs.

As for the mosque, as a confirmed liberal, I am with the people (mostly conservatives) who would just as soon never see another one built in the USA anywhere, much less at ground zero. Why? Because Islam is a colossal falsehood that literally DEMANDS submission to its falseness everywhere it goes. Yes, I know we have a constitution. We also have freedom of speech to call a big lie a big lie. Try that in Saudi Arabia and see if you can keep your head fastened on.

Steve says:

1. “The Democrats would have a much better record if the GOP wasn't deliberately obstructing them”

Interesting. Democrats had a super majority in both Houses for some time. Didn’t even have to read full bills to get passed and signed into law.

Steve says:

2. “The GOP obstructed the stimulus package and the health care reform proposing no alternative to these programs. ”

Stimulus package was passed UNREAD.

Republicans had stimulus plan:

“U.S. House Republican alternative stimulus proposal”

http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE50R71P20090128

Republican had health plan:

http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare

Steve says:

3. “obstructed the $34 billion needed for unemployment benefits extension to needy families”

I recall a man who wanted Democrat’s PAY AS YOU GO paid for.

Steve says:

4. “Don't deny that they are deliberately obstructing Obama's agenda, they proudly admit it.”

I admit Republicans are proud to listen to the will of the PEOPLE.

Steve says

5. “Of course, the GOP doesn't know what it is for, only what it is against. Right now it is against the American people.”

Polls match up with Republican’s NO’s. Prime example obamacae.

6. I don’t comment on data without link. Is meaningless mumbo jumbo without source.
